You have a 7-0 lead after 4 with your ace on the mound, you've lost 12 of your last 18 while the Orioles have cut the division lead by 5.5 and they're going to win again tonight. Even if the Yankees win now, it will be a shaky win to say the least when you desperately needed a laugher. A loss and I'm sure Chavez and others will be more concerned than after last night's game. Right now I'd just sign up a for a playoff spot. Two weeks ago I was hoping for AL homefield advantage, get Pettitte back and hope for the best come Oct.

The standard is supposed to be World Series or bust, and a lot of money is spent on this team to be spectacular. The last few years have been busts, and I think what upsets many of us is that we are not losing for a lack of talent. They certainly have the pieces in place, but consistently underachieve. The rebuttal is usually showing some stat that points to how great the team really is, but is followed with some excuse of bad luck or random occurence. This team is supposed to put up huge numbers, and should actually put up even more than we do.

2 seasons have passed since their last WS win. It's great to have a "WS or Bust" motto, but it takes a lot more than talent/$$ to put on a WS ring run like this team did starting in '96.

They are putting up huge numbers.

They are 3rd offensively in the AL in runs per game (4.84), and 2nd in OPS+.

They are 4th defensively in the AL in runs allowed per game (4.06), and 2nd in ERA+.

The team that is outproducing them in OPS+ is 11th in ERA+. The team that is beating them in ERA+ is 13th in OPS+.

They are elite offensively and defensively, and no other team has quite the balanced effectiveness the Yankees do to this point.

It's not putting lipstick on a pig, it's using facts and data to form objective views that aren't bogged down by isolated incidents where our eyes override our brains (e.g. W/L in 1 run games).

Eh give it some time, he has to get readjusted. What I mean though is there was a long stretch that looked like the Yankees had the best bullpen in baseball. I think they had lowest era then robertson came back and now it looks a little shaky.

My understanding is that with the introduction of the new playoff format, mlb also changed the seeding and tie-breaking formulas such that a win like last night's actually won't count when determining if we make the playoffs or how we're seeded.

In keeping with this year's meme started by Mr. Coffee - NYY Fans where Yankee fans come to complain about the manner of victory. I have to agree it was somewhat depressing to see our ace and top setup guy turn a laugher into a nail biter.

Based on this standard, the franchise have been busts 84 out of their 111 seasons (including their seasons as the Baltimore Orioles and NY Highlanders).

Very true.

I still say the whole feeling around this team, and its recent struggles, would be different had they won 2 of 3 against both Boston and Baltimore like they should have.

Hopefully they take care of business in Toronto and get on more of a roll.
