Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I think its possible to fully appreciate everything thats happened here since 1995...but also get upset when the current team goes thru a losing streak or voice opinions on how the team is run. I want to win every year. Of course I know thats not gonna happen, but it doesnt mean it shouldnt be a goal and it shouldnt be something you hope for. And it also wont mean when we lose I wont get frustrated. I hate losing. Some fans can let losses roll of their backs easy and just shrug their shoulders and move on...I'm not one of those people.

I don't think so. IMO, you have to experience your team really struggling for a period of time to fully appreciate a dynasty type team like the 90s Yankees. It has nothing to do with youth or being a better fan, but all to do with realizing the difficulty that lies in having one team dominate a sport for an extended period of time. All of us hate losing and none of us embrace it, but sooner or later, we're all have to deal with it and if that's what you call moving on then so be it. We all evolve as people, the same is true as fans as life experiences and the maturation process changes us all, including our fandom.

You and me both. If King Felix pitched for a team like the Yankees, instead of being considered one of the best pitchers in baseball, he would be thought of as an immortal pitcher who's final address will be the HOF. God, I hate seeing such a great talent being wasted on a bad team. Furthemore, I don't think he realizes how good he can be as the constant losing has to affect his mental outlook in a negative way especially knowing his team is limited in the number of runs they can give him.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I fully understand your viewpoint, I have friends who act like the end of the world is here when the Yanks lose. I'm dealing with what is basically a terminal condition which has shifted my priorities away from sports of any professional kind. Now sitting through a 90 degree plus day yesterday and taking 3 hours to get home after because of an accident on the Deegan, that is frustrating! I know a lot of the posts come down as "I'm a better fan than you" but that is not the intent, it is basically two types of fans describing how they are. For me, there has not been a title more meaningful to me than the 1996 World Series. Yes I've enjoyed the others since but that one more so because it came after 15 years of either sucking or falling just short. I think if we won every year, it would become boring and less meaningful. The negativity that puzzles me isn't those that are upset about losing the game, it's the negativity of we have lost 6 of 7 so our future is bleak, it's a failure of the system, etc. That is what drives me crazy.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
Fair enough. It all comes down to personality. Everyone handles things different. I'm a wear my heart on my sleeve kinda guy. I hate losing anything....I get upset when someone beats me at mini golf or air hockey haha. When I played sports in HS, I was like a cross between Paul O'Neill and John McEnroe. Other people are like Mo, they keep everything inside. If it bothers them they dont show it or they simply dont allow it to bother them.
Everyone's fandom is different. I'll even admit that some of the things I say right after a loss or in the midst of a losing streak...are emotions talking. I cant change it though, its just who I am. This board is therapeutic to me when it comes to venting frustrations about the team.
I do think sometimes though people who express legit concerns and/or are unhappy...seem to get picked on alot. Not saying by you, but more of a general statement.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I used to get pissed when they'd lose. These days I don't even react unless it's a really tough loss to a rival team. Even then it's not very likely. The older I get the less I find myself caring.

His peripherals are as good as ever. Velocity loss is a concern, but it doesn't matter all that much when his offspeed stuff is so elite.

I really wish we still had Melky and Austin Jackson. And Jesus Montero, but that's because of the injury.

Even though we're down 7-2, Eric Chavez, who is 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, should have been a Player of the Game candidate.

It seems like every time we face Verlander, the tigers score a bunch of runs.

Verlander became the third pitcher since 1918 to have at least 14 strikeouts and at least 8 hits allowed against the Yankees. The previous two times were in 1957 and 1920, and unlike Verlander both of those pitchers pitched 9 innings.

Today was the second fewest pitches the Yankees have thrown since 1918 in a game where they allowed 7 or more runs. The Yankees threw 105 pitches today and threw 101 pitches on June 9, 1994 in a 7-5 loss at Toronto.

Owned by two aces in three days. Not good.
As much as I like Nova, he is flat out brutal right now. While I think he is a better long-term option than Phelps, I don't think it would be terrible if he were sent down for a bit to regain his form and give Phelps his starts. Either way, our once impressive pitching depth is now razor thin. I fear we have one of those rotations which is built for the regular season but may get beaten like a drum in October.
