Rays designate Matsui for assignment.
Bring him back and complete the Japanese Triumvirate.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
And not a bat in the minors that's anywhere close to helping out this team in the foreseeable future. Sad, really.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
Could have been Corban Joseph or David Adams if the Yankees moved one of them to third at some point. Brandon Laird isn't doing anything to justify keeping his spot.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
Ibanez/Jones are now the 6th hitter..which is too high in the lineup for guys who without looking, I am guessing have a collective BA around .235-.240 and OBP around .300. 7-8-9 might be Chavez/Ichiro/Martin. Thats pretty damn brutal...your last four hitters all have OBP's no higher then .320 all the way to the .290 range.

they probably want cojo or adams playing everyday if they come up, and at this point, they're just not ready to trust them with that

Some incredibly laughable OBPs: Ichiro .290, Ibanez .294, Martin .296, and Jones .298.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I don't have a problem with Chavez and Jones. They've been really good. The problem is with these two:
Ibanez: .238/.297/.440 94 OPS+
Martin: .180/.295/.356 73+
It's a bigger issue now with ARod's injury as all these guys get bumped up in the order and will now have to play more often causing even more issues to pop up (Chavez's durability, Ibanez having to face LHP late in the game, etc). It's a major clusterfudge.
The pen should right itself once Joba gets back and hopefully giving them four quality relievers and a LOOGY, but the offense scares the bejeebus out of me. This team went from dominant to questionable in two weeks.

when every single batter in a lineup is streaky as eff, it's easier to understand how these losing streaks can kinda come out of nowhere

my only fear now is that girardi will start playing nix way more than necessary

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
The Yankees have a big enough lead to weather the injuries. Every day that goes by is another step closer to getting players back ... first Swisher, then moving on to Joba, Pettitte, and ultimately A-Rod.

Yeah he's had a hot July but I was thinking overall. Even when he was at third Joseph has still out produced him. Hopefully next year they switch him to 3B full time and they can slowly break him in with the Yanks. A-Rod is going to have to be the fulltime DH at some point in the next few years. Plus this is a good way of helping get to $189M if they really intend on doing that.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
What is "necessary?" Unless and until another RHitting third baseman is obtained, he will be platooned with Chavez. A hit like today might get him more pinch hits for Ibanez as well against lefties. But I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing, do you?
He probably is not going to be playing SS on Jeter's DH days with Pena around.
