Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I'm re-quoting the paragraph I was referencing in my previous post.
You mentioned the headliners only as Pineda, Hughes, Banuelos and Betances. Nova had to have been part of the prime quartet as he was pitching in the bigs before Cashman ever traded for Pineda. It doesn't matter whether he was under the radar or not, he's got to be considered among the cost-controlled options and in a big way because he's already here.
C'mon, admit it. You forgot about Nova when you wrote your excellent post.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
I could get behind this if the alternative wasn't Garcia at twice Colon's cost. I don't see how anyone expected Garcia to replicate his '11 season. He was tremendous, but was/is also an injury risk and regression to the mean was almost inevitable. Colon at least flashed outrageously good stuff in the first half prior to getting hurt. I'm surprised that if they were set on gambling on one of those guys this season that it wasn't Colon.

So, basically we have Koruda (37), Garcia (35) and Pettitte (39) as critical pieces of our starting rotation that we cannot lose to injury.

I can't believe year after year we come back to the same situation with our starting rotation. What a combination of incredible bad luck and incompetence on the part of Cashman and the management to solidify our pitching situation.

Re: 2012 General Yankee Comments Thread
There's obviously a lot that can happen between now and then, but with the uncertainty around Pineda, the one-year deals for Kuroda and Pettitte, the ineffectiveness of Hughes, the dampened outlooks for some of the mL SP options... I'd be surprised if the Yankees don't continue to publicly state their desire to get under $189MM but begin planning on being over that by going hard after Hamels and retaining key guys on the offense.

April 27th and the Yankees are already doomed for 2012 and probably 2013 if they don't sign Cole Hamels.

Who has said anything remotely close to that? I generally agree with your POV that is less cynical that most around here, but you're reaching here if you're commenting on my post. I honestly don't see this in any posts out here (although there's plenty of DOOOOM in the Pineda threads).

Looking at the bullpens of some playoff hopefuls (Toronto, LAA, Boston) and looking at our depth.
We could really rape and pillage some teams a couple of months from now.Fistpumping like a champion.
