    Re: 2012 Umpire Performance/Venting Thread

You can believe that I found a thread that I'll be visiting quite often, some of you already know how I feel about this necessary evil. Some fans don't want to believe that umpires are fans too, there's no proof of any wrong doing by them. Yet like any passionate fan their feelings could reflect in the ball and strike calls, or any close play but that's just the way that I see them.

Joe West should be barred from Yankee games.

Being an umpire - I can honestly say.... Joe West might be the worst umpire in MLB. Although, Laz Diaz gives him a run for his money.

Yeah but Robertson also got some extremely generous calls against Markakis. Jim Palmer nearly messed his pants when Nick got rung up. Although I agree with the point he was making -- there is no accountability for umpires. Even with the ability to visually demonstrate how balls/strikes were missed, nothing ever happens to the umpires who perform poorly.

Markakis got rung up b/c he kept on arguing with the ump. That was ball 4.

He had every right to be p*ssed. Two of the called strikes in that sequence were clearly balls.

Can't believe that pitch to A-Rod was called a strike. Weiters did frame that beautifully even though he didn't intend to do so.

Strike 3 to A-Rod tonight was quite literally the worst strike call I've ever seen.

I was shocked. Kind of pissed me off Girardi didn't argue but just stood there rolling his eyes.

Yea i was hoping joe would at least get out there. I know every attempt ends up futile, but for one reason or another it always tends to pump the bats up a little bit, could have helped tex bring in the runner who knows.

Wieters making that great adjustment just fooled the ump into thinking that it was a strike. That being said, I guess that blown call made up for the blown call on Swisher who clearly swung on the HBP to start the inning.

The first pitch strike to Swisher on that curveball to start that inning was horrendous as well. It was literally 10 inches off the plate.

That one was a tough one for the Umpire I'll cut the guy slack.

And Wieters wasn't trying to frame anything he was in fact trying to save his life because he was expecting a breaking ball and got a 97 MPH fastball instead.

He didn't purposely frame it was what I meant. It was incredible that he was able to hang on to that.

Joe sits on his hands too much. He was supposed to be the anti-Joe Torre but hasn't really been that way.

you can't argue balls and strikes and a-rod wasn't cursing the ump out so I can't see why Joe would go out there..from his spot in the dugout you can only see egregious high and low calls anyway - it would be tough for him to see location from there.

Aside from being at least a foot off the plate, you never, ever see the pitcher get a called strike when the catcher reaches that far. Horrible call.

I know you can't argue balls and strikes but you do it anyway. It was one of the most ridiculous calls I've seen.

How is the umpire thread being used to bash Joe?

The call was awful. Weiters pulled it back a mile and it still wasn't over the plate. No doubt that Welke will have hung his head when he saw it on the monitor.
