Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
It 's not a 9 innings game so it shouldn't count.

Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
Need more contact hitters. Too many hitters in this lineup that don't shorten up on their swings with RISP.
It's why they don't hit in the post season.
A couple more Brett Gardner's will go a long way. imo.

21 LOB is hard to do for any team.
As many have said in this thread; At least they're getting on base.

Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
On the flip side, if we got too many contact hitters and still struggled to score. We'd bemoan the lack of power and failing to take advantage of the stadium that we have that is prime for home run hitters.
A lot of it just comes down to luck. If the right guys get hot at the right time, then you'll have a chance."Owning the Yankees," Steinbrenner once said, "is like owning the Mona Lisa."

Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
I didn't say to fill the entire lineup with a bunch of Brett Gardners.
Nine hitters in an AL lineup and 3 are contact hitters is NOT a big deal. That leaves you with 6 power hitters. I'm looking to add other elements to this lineup. Too many of the same type of hitters.
They would still hit for plenty of power.
It's not "luck" either. The Yankees are not a contact situational hitting team. And haven't been for years.

...yet perennially lead or are amongst the leaders in run production.
When you say "contact situational hitting team", what situations are you referring to? When you say "haven't been for years" do you include 2011?

Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
Indeed and in years where they didn't hit well with RISP they have won the WS. This proves you wrong, not right. Baseball performances are inconsistent by design and luck is built into the mechanics of the game. There isn't some magical combination of player types that will make a team consistent and guaranteed to have post-season success.

Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
I think after the 96-01 stretch. Folks thought that we could replicate that club and have another run similar to that one. When in reality, we're not likely to see a run like that every again...in any sport.
The best we can do is build a club that ccan compete over 162 and hope for the best in October. If this club gets hot at the right time, then we'll be a match for anyone ( just like a number of other clubs )."Owning the Yankees," Steinbrenner once said, "is like owning the Mona Lisa." Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
You said they haven't been good situational hitters for years. Just last season, they were very good situational hitters over the course of 162 games. Now you're going to trot out playoff samples. Last year's playoff demise came down to 1 run in game 5, and it really wasn't just situational hitting. It was that A-Rod, Tex, Martin and Swisher completely vaporized regardless of situation.

Re: 2012 Offense Performance Thread
Agreed. Just look at last season. The Cardinals surged into the playoffs, weren't taken seriously at all and won the whole thing. Some key performances at key times from both the offense and defense. Does that mean they're great situationally? I don't think so.
The Yankees have a strong offense that will almost certainly bat them into the playoffs. From there, it's anybody's game.
