2012 David Robertson Performance Thread

His ridiculous Houdini act 89% strand rate in 2011 was never gonna last.

K/9 is down, but that's partly because he's not walking as many people (giving him more chances to K). In terms of per batter faced, his K% isn't down that much (36.8 to 31.3). His BB% meanwhile dropped ~30% from 12.9% to 8.5%.

We're looking at a more aggressive pitcher more willing to attack the zone. The Ks, BBs and K/BB ratios are all still very strong. Going forward, he's still our best option in the 8th. Some playoff teams wish they had DRob to close for that matter.

I really liked the old no contact, K or BB d-rob. It was great for a reliever, especially with that many k's. Would never work for a starter but it's great for a reliever.

He also lost some velocity. I recall him hitting 96mph.

It's great for a fireman because there are situations where all or nothing is good (guys like Robertson will tend to give up runs in chunks).

But for someone we'll need starting innings... I prefer a lower WHIP and lower expected ERA profile.

I've been disappointed with Drob this season.
He has lacked consistency and walks too many.

I never thought he could be a closer and let's ask the Yankees to not consider him for that role. He just allows too many baserunners and does not do a smooth, clean, job.

I'd like to know why he has been relatively ineffective this season? Is his arm going, have teams scouted him?

If you're responding to grizy, he was referring to starting INNINGS, not games (as opposed to a reliever that comes in to get the team out of jams).

Isn't it obvious? He's lost 3-4 mph on his fastball. That's hard to overcome....

Well, if you consider that he put up a 1.08 ERA last year, he probably wasn't that extremely dominant and was surely to regress in some form this year.

The numbers are not totally far off from last year. Perhaps Robertson's assertion is correct from last night that balls this year just happen to be "finding holes" compared to 2011.

This post I agree with. Robertson has the ability to get thru any situation.

Me personally, i would've let Lowe start the 7th. I think he could've gotten us all the way to the 9th with no problems.

I'm pretty down on Robertson as well. But I give him credit for racking up those two strikeouts before Girardi rightly handed the ball to Soriano.
