DKnobler
@DKnobler Scouts following Yankees are raving about David Robertson. "The other night, his cutter was better than Rivera's," one said.

Well, he sure seems to have learned the "icewater in his veins" trick - altho in his case he doesn't just seem not to care if there are people on base, he seems to get MORE intense.

Re: 2012 David Robertson Performance Thread
I agree.
The original comment was about DRob providing this elite pitching year after year, so tht is what I was commenting on.
To me - if Robertson has another good year (not expecting him to duplicate last year -that'd be absurd expectations) they outght to think about wrapping this guy up with a healthy extension.Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: 2012 David Robertson Performance Thread
No worries, I knew what your original comment was referencing. I have been thinking that a deal around $18m over three years would do it. Usually, I'd flip out over that kind of deal but as we're shedding Mo's contract and we know this guy can handle NY. Throw in that he hasn't been overworked by Girardi and he might be worth it. Of course, I'd be much happier with three years and $12m.

Re: 2012 David Robertson Performance Thread
Considering he's not FA eligible until 2015, I don't know why you'd sign him to a 3/18 contract now.
A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!

Re: 2012 David Robertson Performance Thread
The Yankees will not extend any pitcher until they are in their walk year. I believe Mo and Andy were the last home grown/arbitration eligible guys to get taken care of. They went year to year until their walk year (Mo lost in arbitration!). Wang was upset that he had to go year to year while Cano got a great extemsion. Wang had just came off 2 19 win seasons. The Yankees were absolutely right to hold off and go year to year with Wang because pitchers get hurt. In DRob we know he is one of the best young setup men in baseball and does have closer stuff. But until he proved that he can indeed close you can't just hand him closer money. Lets say that Mo retires and the Yankees do plan to give the 9th inning to DRob in 2013. He will be paid based on his past performance, not future because that is what they would argue if they had to go to arbitration. That will put him in Mike Adams's salary range of 1 year/$4.4M per Cotts. Maybe a bit less in that Adams has more service time.
Once he proves he can close then the Yankees can talk extension but he would still probably be looking at a 1 year deal in 2014, his last year of arbitration.

I think Dave Robertson looked positively snazzy in his retro uni. And is this sequence classic, or what?

Re: 2012 David Robertson Performance Thread
I said last year that he was probably the best non-Mo reliever since Mo became Mo. There's definitely no doubt about it now.
Dude is cray.

It's from a fantasy perspective but this guy ranks him the #2 no closing reliever in baseball.
