On Seattle shortstop Brendan Ryan: (paraphrasing) "he's batting .188. No team can carry a guy batting .188."
Silence...then it was like a light bulb came on. Martin says "hello"
"Well, you have to have a lot of good hitters."
..and Suzyn sounded quite distraught about losing Wise.If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Re: 2012 John Sterling Performance Thread
My favorite and classic Sterling moment is at the end of games during his recap, when 2 batters are retired, Sterling will say, "and the next 2 men MADE OUT"....Whoa uhhh really!?

I don't listen to the games on radio often ( yeah, I know, lucky me... ) but, I just thought: does anybody know what his HR call is for Jason Nix ? ( I thought of one: "It's a Nix knock ! )...
Roger Maris = single season "natural" home-run record-holder.

Re: 2012 John Sterling Performance Thread
he actually had a good call for the big hit today.
i dont know if this is on Sterling, but why did I have to wait 6 minutes to know the score during the postgame show?

Was the old song "If You Knew Susie" from a Broadway show? If so I'm banking on "If you knew Suzuki like I know Suzuki" ...
Rocking that "arrogant Yankee fan" attitude.

Re: 2012 John Sterling Performance Thread
I don't think his homerun call names have anything to do with sponsorship.
It has to do with arrogance.
This guy must sit up late at night and figure out what the heck he's gonna say when each member of the team hit a dinger. It's so sick.
He likely brings a little notepad with him and as the ball is traveling out, he looks up the moniker. Well, the ones he doesn't know by heart anyway.
It all makes me ill.Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: 2012 John Sterling Performance Thread
Geez, I don't know about the rest of you, but I get MLB on cable and many times I have to turn the sound off on these Tampa Bay, Oakland and Seattle fans who pretend they are announcers. They are the worst homers I've heard yet. So I listen on 640 AM and even though the Yankee feed is a pitch behind, I'd rather listen to Sterling and Susan than those homers. The Red Sox ironically have fair announcers so I'll listen to them. Jery Remy is a real announcer. He doesn't root for the Red Sox.
A few nights ago in extra innings, I believe the Oakland fan announcer said to the Oakland batter, "C'mon hit a home run so we can go home happy." Would you rather have that or would you settle for Sterling? The Yankees have been blessed with great players over the years. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Phil Rizzuto, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and now Mark Teixeira to name a few.

Re: 2012 John Sterling Performance Thread
I'm not sure if anyone else heard this but in the Saturday night game against the Red Sox he called Granderson's home run gone before he said it was foul. I was beside myself as I thought that the Yankees had tied the game. Obviously Teixeira would go on to tie it in the next at bat but I don't get why Sterling can't just wait until the umpire calls it fair or foul before making his call.
