Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread

I know there is a lot of "fire Joe" sentiment going around. Count me out of that camp. I think Joe does a good job with line-ups, rest for an older lineup and the most important managerial job - bullpen management.

    the rest is just details.

Girardi is not going to be fired. So anyone who thinks he will or wants him to be fired is dreaming.
Too bad so sad. So just stop the madness.

I have no faith in the Yankees finding anyone better than Girardi so I don't want him to be fired, but it was hard watching him give up on A-Rod.

Not a Girardi fan but I expect he will be back. There are worse options but I think he handled the team wrong in so many ways this post season. Hearing him interviewed, he really didn't seem to get it that it created controversy sitting ARod. He basically said it shouldn't have affected the team since they need to be mentally tough.
He never really answers why Alex didn't have the chance to work out of it while lesser players did, then sat one game. Even Verlander was surprised.
I don't think post season is a good time to try new policies, punishments or whatever else went on.

As a Manager, avoiding controversies shouldn't be his priority....putting together the best line up is. Im not a huge Girardi fan either but I don't think his performance warrants termination.

yeah, no way G lets that happen regular season, where Raul's terrible splits would trigger a PH move. but this was such a whacked postseason, where Raul was the Magic Man, and A Rod was banished to Siberia, it was not likely he'd pull a total reversal and put it on A Rod (presumably) there -- and can he did can you imagine the reaction here ???!!!! Again, the no A Rod PH that still gets me is favoring Brett FFFFFFFF ing Gardner, first real game since April and whiffle ball bat vs a TOASTED Verlander -- that non-move continues to rattle around in my brain.

in any case, Raul had a pretty good AB, got the count full, and Coke of all people made a great 3-2 pitch for the K. so I have made my peace w that one.

PS the other move that made me nuts, now that I think about it, was pitching to Delmon Young (game 1 IIRC) with first open. Girardi had studiously avoided him in the past (EG pulling Andy game 3 ALDS 09 to avoid the matchup) based on head to head stats -- there it made sense on general principle.

    Over and out !!

That said, I'd like to see Chavez back. He's a fine backup IF, particular since Swisher is likely to be gone and they'll need a caddy for Tex. He's just not a starter, and certainly shouldn't be platooned with A-Rod at this point.
I hope they bring Chavez back too. You can't play A Rod every game at 3B and Chavez is an excellent fielder. And he did get some big hits during the season.

Didn't Chavez have errors and misplays in the ALCS? I like Chavez better than ARod, but David Wright just may be the "Wright" option for us in 2014.

David Wright would be a huge get, as long as contract sanity starts to come back into the fold (which I expect in a post-steriod, quasi-Yankee constraint world it does).

Chavez strangely did struggle in the field, and it was COSTLY. But I still think he's a great backup, especially if Swisher isn't back to play Tex' caddy.

Wright would be a great pickup but his price might be too high if the Yankees want to get the payroll under $189 million in 2014. Chavez is a solid fielder dispite what happened in the playoffs.
