Things would be so much easier if CC would man up and just pitch every game

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Why the hell is Nunez playing/dhing?

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
He doesn't have the stones to play Chavez over Arod.
Swisher should not be hitting behind Cano.

You are not going to play Chavez against a LHP over A Rod at 3B or Nunez at DH.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
It didn't end up costing the team, but at the time I thought it was a bad move to allow Andy to start the 8th, considering they had a fully rested pen, they have off tomorrow and Andy was nearing 100 pitches.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Lefty-Lefty strikes again.
Had Girardi lifted Pettitte, it could only be for a lefty and only for one batter, considering that a right-handed hitter (Jones I think) was up next.
So knowing Girardi's self-imposed limitations on choices, leaving Pettitte in wasn't egregious. But yeah, if it were me I'd have gone straight to Robertson."Baseball is about hope, not confidence." -- rajah

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Can't really get on Joe for this move. If he pulls Pettitte he would have brought in Logan or Rapada for the one batter and then went to Robertson. So by leaving Andy in he was saving his 2 lefty relievers for possible use later in the game. Now yes he could have went right to Robertson but that would go against the binder.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
I did not mind seeing Pettitte facing the LH power hitter Davis as the 1st batter in the 8th. I think that in that situation, Joe was showing more confidence in Andy, than bringing in Logan/Rapada for that one batter.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
I assume slurpee was talking about game 3 vs RHP miguel gonzalez, who has great numbers vs many NYY boppers this yr. i'm not sure A Rod has faced him, but Chavez actually has pretty good numbers, one of the few NYY IIRC (1.500 OPS over something like 6 ABs, SSS to be sure).
If A Rod is struggling vs middlin' and good RHP, i'm not liking his chances vs a really good RHP he's never seen before. tomorrow is a must win game. I like playing Chavez at 3B and DH ing Ibanez. Just let A Rod clear his head and work w K Long for a few days, a la Grandyman 2010. maybe join the fun later as PH. Lineup could be Jeter Ich Cano Chavez Tex Grandy Ibanez Swish Martin.
I would rather put out the very best lineup rather than hope for long lost lightning in a bottle or dropping him down to avoid the spotlight that is sure to find him in any case.

Man do I hate an off day in the playoffs after a tough loss -- too much time to think.
It does appear that Joe will drop Alex in the order given the vibe from his commentsOh man....

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Per above post, i would go: Lineup could be Jeter Ich Cano Chavez Tex Grandy Ibanez Swish Martin
If G gets radical and gives A Rod a breather, i think you need to go for your best playoff performance odds -- at at 1-33 w RISP, Swish, as solid as he's been for us most of the yr and also game 1, isn't the poster boy for that. Gonzalez is a really tough RHP, and i'm pretty sure A Rod has never faced him. Chavez has, and with solid results. He's been huge spelling A Rod all yr. Maybe that's the call for tomorrow, Ibanez too. [exit to faint cavalry bugle cry and quickening sound of hoofbeats] .........

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Surround your best hitter with the two guys failing miserably over the last few years in October. Smart.
