Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Lowe looking pretty awful too. Maybe I should be coming down on Cashman more...since he's the one that put this pen together. Its a craptastic bullpen outside DRob and Sori.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
I wanted to see Lowe start the 6th but I think once the pen crapped out in the 5th, Joe decided to stay with Joba, against the bottom of the order, and clearly it did not work. Honestly I think the pen was so poor tonight that virtually any move that Joe made was going to fail.

I think once they tied the game with a groundout, they should have stuck with Eppley.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Pinch hitting for Chavez worked. But that was it. Lowe should have started the 6th if only because Joba has been pretty terrible so far. Coming off major surgery he is just not there yet.
You really have to keep him out of close games untill he starts pitching like before his injuries.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
After Sori and DRob the bullpen is weak. Logan has been overused and overexposed. Outside of those 3 guys the pen consists of a bunch of high 80's/low 90's junk ballers who depend on mediocre changeups to get batters out.
edit: not including Joba who is a case study all to himself.

Not Joe's greatest game.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Assuming CC rejoins the rotation on Friday the smart thing would be to maybe skip either Hughes, Nova or Garcia and give Phelps another start off his two great outings last week.
But why do I know that Phelps will just go back to basically rotting in the bullpen.

Gives his starting pitchers just enough rope to hang themselves.

We dont' have a lot of depth in the pen right now. Can't really blame Girardi for giving Nova extra rope.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
if he wasn't going to yank Nova early, I wish Joe would have left him out there longer than what he did.
Nova was only at 84 pitches and had sort of settled down (and was only replaced with a guy like Lowe, anyway).

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
I cant get on Joe much. His bullpen blows outside of DRob/Sori...and other then Kuroda (and CC when he returns) none of his starters are trustworthy.

The we he switches from "STFU" mode back into "stock answer for post game interview" mode is pretty priceless

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread
Apparently Nova had stiffness in his arm Tuesday (reported in today's Daily News). Joe might be forced to give Phelps another start.
