I'm sure the analysis is sound, but I'm guessing it's influenced by years of managers (generally) putting good OBP guys in 1/2, the best all around hitter at #3, and their best slugger at #4 (with some variation/exceptions of course). That creates opportunity for #5.

If you created lineups out of a hat for 162 games, I'm going to go with the better hitter getting the sure-fire 30 to 40 extra at bats a year in the 3 hole rather than assume that the as the #5 hitter he would get materially more run production opportunity in spite of who hits in front of him.

They will all play tonight. They all played on opening day.

Resting will start again tomorrow like back in game 2 of the season.

Nix at DH for series opener

Yankees still have a five-man bench that includes Darnell McDonald.

    Derek Jeter SS
    Curtis Granderson CF
    Alex Rodriguez 3B
    Mark Teixeira 1B
    Robinson Cano 2B
    Nick Swisher RF
    Andruw Jones LF
    Russell Martin C
    Jayson Nix DH
Darnell McDonald is still a Yankee and Robbie's still in the 5 hole.

That's ridiculous, the line up should be:

    1. Derek Jeter
    2. Nick Swisher
    3. Robinson Cano
    4. Curtis Granderson
    5. Mark Teixeira
    6. Alex Rodriguez
    7. Andruw Jones
    8. Jayson Nix
    9. Russell Martin

I don't understand what's so wrong about not being happy with the lineup? He's had Cano batting 5th for far too long. It's not like this is some isolated incident.

The roster doesn't give Joe a lot of options, but geez, Nix at DH doesn't make me warm and fuzzy (of course that means he'll go 3-4 tonight with a couple of extra base hits) and the less said about McDonald the better.

Upon reflection. Perhaps not a huge blunder to bat Tex #3 !!

PS O Neill was all over this game from the booth, just great. Great move to let Martin hit there, a real shot in the arm.

I'd still like to know how i was "complaining" in my initial post. I was just merely stating my opinion. For Christ's sake Joe's been the manager of the year so far in my eyes.

Good job today by Joe sticking with Eppley and not doing the whole mix and match thing.

Qualls in a 1 run game in the 8th. Makes sense.

Why did they bring him back out for the 8th? He is terrible.

Mind blowing how he decides to just give games away.

Same thing with Wade pitching late in a 1 run game at Fenway. Waiving the white flag for some reason.

Who do you want him to pitch? Eppley pitched two innings yesterday and he's not going to commit Robertson today unless it's tied or he has a lead and with the Angels with mostly right-handed hitters, he's kind of restricted with his left-handed pitchers. Sometimes, you have to save your bullets for a later fight.

Re: 2012 Joe Girardi Performance Thread

Epply and robertson can't pitch every day

At some point, the other arms in the pen will be used, and they will have to perform... If anything, blame cashman for putting qualls on th e roster
