Yanks acquire Chris Stuart as backup catcher. Cervelli to AAA.

Yankees trade George Kontos to SF for backup C Chris Stuart, who will make the roster. Francisco Cervelli will go to Triple-A.


EDIT: Feinsand can't spell. It's Chris Stewart. The same one who was on the Yanks for a bit in '08.

and will still suck when the Yanks eventually release him. With final rosters due in today, there was no other catcher in the majors that the Yanks couldve gotten as a stop gap till Romine got better so Cervelli could come back up.

Forget Kontos, I thought they liked Cervelli who I always thought was a decent backup catcher. What does this guy bring to the table that they didn't already have in the home-grown Cervelli? Another case of the grass is always greener on the other side?

I was thinking maybe he would be out longer than expected or this would be a chronic problem. Maybe I am blind but I see no other reason they would do this.

This only makes sense to add depth to AA/AAA ... but why Cisco couldn't back-up Martin is beyond me. It's not like Stewart is going to come in here and make a significant impact. It's a head scratcher for sure

I guess Romine is really hurt but even then it doesn't make sense because the whole thing of Chris Stuart not being that good.

Cashman is cold blooded man feel bad for Cervelli even though this is all logistics and he will be up sooner then later.

Yeah, giving a marginal talented ball player a chance to make hundreds of thousands of dollars and get world wide exposure playing for the Yankees.
