Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
If we want Barry Zito in an exchange of bad contracts that may or may not appeal to SF as they have some in house options to close (Romo & Casilla) but probbaly not because they have no real SP depth at the AAA level to setp in for the loss of Zito. Since we have almost no use for Zito, can't see that one appealing to NYY anyway.
They would probably trade Huff straight up for Soriano if it wasn't for Soriano's $14M player option next year as there is only a $3M difference in salary this year and dealing Huff would open up 1B for Belt/Pill and fill their closer need.
If you are suggesting that the Giants might actually trade something useful while taking on the ~$27M remaining on Soriano's deal then

The bullpen is really saving this team's ass so far this year...imagine where we would be if they were even a little less then great.

Or Abreu
Salary dumps are a part of baseball and will continue to be so.
It's been a long time sine the commisioner nixed a pure slary dump trade, I think going back to the 70s when Charley Finley tried to sell off his WS teams. IIRC Rollie Fingers & Joe Rudi were to be shipped to Boston and Vida Blue to New York in a pure salary dump for cash only to Oakland. The commissioner nixed both in the "best interest of baseball".Baseball is life;

Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
In both the Berkman and Abreu trades, players were given back to the respective clubs.
The poster I was responding to was speaking about giving Soriano to the Brewers for nothing.
I guess I should have said that the there is no more selling players for straight cash anymore.Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
Not technically selling for nothing but Rios went to the Sox mearly for them assuming his contract. Yes that was waivers so a bit different. But no reason the Yanks couldn't put Soriano on wavier and try the same thing if in fact they just wanted to get rid of salary.
And in the Abreu & Lidle for crap deal it is debatable whether or not the yanks sent anything even remotely expected to be marginal value.Baseball is life;

In opponents' OPS the Yankees are 27th, with the starters 30th (last) and the bullpen 3rd. In ERA the Yankees are 19th, with the starters 26th and the bullpen 1st.

Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
Another good bullpen this year. Robertson and Mo are probably the best one-two punch and then the rest of them just do their job. I like that we have options and that the 'pen is deep. Given that Warren and Mitchell are in AAA, we look good going forward. Phelps wasn't at his best last night but he for the first time, he didnt look amazing. Can't bash the kind for that..

I'm not a huge fan of 13 man pitching staffs but with the way the starters have been performing they need everyone of them (I'm still not sold on Rapada)

Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
Cory Wade gets so little credit on this board it's a shame...all he does is throw strikes and get outs.
Oh man....

Bullpen is keeping this team afloat right now.
"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."

Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
My inclination would be to keep DRob where he is and tell Sori it's now time to earn your money. He's done this before hopefully he can do it again...
Plays the game the wrong way.

Re: 2012 Bullpen Performance Thread
Funny, I don't hear anyone calling for Soriano to be traded now.
Hopefully Aardsma is close to a return also,
