Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
A WAR of 8.2 is nothing to sneeze at. I think 8.0 or greater is considered MVP production. Funny as it sounds, I think Robbie has the potential to put up even bigger numbers. All he needs is better pitch recognition, and this year, he layed off more bad pitches than ever before.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
When Rogers Hornsby was a manager, he once called one of his players a talking pile of pigsh!t right in front of the player's parents, who had drove all the way from Michigan to watch their son play. Presumably, the player quit baseball because of this and went into acting instead.
He later won two Academy Awards.27 World Championships

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
Last year apparently never happened. If you wondered when Robinson Cano was going to take over this Yankee team, make it his the way it has been owned by stars such as Derek Jeter, we might have seen the beginning of it on Wednesday night.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
If either Cano or Jeter were out of the line-up they would find a way to win, if both were out of the line-up at the same time, we would not be in the playoffs now. Because when Jeter and Cano are both hot it drives the offense. Jeter and Cano are the best hitters on the team, hands down. I don't think anyone is going to argue that.
So, I think Jeter and Cano are both equally important in the line-up that makes a difference.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
How is it ridiculous seeing Jeter as one of the more valuable players this year on the team? Plus, I never said Jeter was the MVP, and I never said Cano was either. If Cano did not have his tear the last week or so, how would it sit? When Cano slumped Jeter was on fire. So give me a break. PLUS! Jeter was playing hurt and still managed to keep his BA high.
Throwing MVP out the window, Jeter sets a tone and sets an example for the other players, this is something Cano has not acheived yet. It's the little things like hustling to 1st base everytime the ball is hit and not just staring at it. Cano is great but he still does not have the entire package of Derek Jeter and that is why he is captain, where Cano will likely never get that position.
I think it is more ridiculous not seeing what Jeter has done for the team this year.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
Well Cano was on fire the last week so it counts especially because those games were extremely important. Even before the last week, Cano's OPS was 100 points higher than Jeter's. Then add in defense. It's a no brainer. Cano is the MVP of the team and its not even close.
Also, show me where I said Jeter wasn't one of the most valuable players on the team.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
And less quality pitching. You didn't have lefty specialists throwing 96mph coming out of the pen in the 1920s. You don't have a righty throwing 97mph coming out of the pen, etc.
Pitchers in that era pretty much finished the game they started and wore down towards the end of games. Seeing the same guy 4 times?
