Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
Best player on the team has a 12 page performance thread. Pineda's is 100.
Don't tease me, you know what I do for a living.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
Cano's job is to drive in runs. He should be over 90 now for a MVP year. There are 3 guys on the team with more RBI's than him. He is under 80 and has not really missed any games this year. He is not having one of his best seasons.
Jeter's job is to get on base and score runs. He leads the team in hits, average, runs, average with RISP, and is 2nd in OBP. So tell me why Jeter being MVP is so hard to believe?

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
Clay Rapada's job is to get lefties out. He has done that better than pretty much everyone in the league. I think we might be looking at the AL MVP and Cy Young here.
Judging the MVP by what their job is on the team is worse than determining MVP based on who is in the playoffs. Maybe Cano wouldn't have so few RBIs if he didn't have Teixeira and Granderson with their poor OBPs hitting in front of them. On a separate note, using RBIs to evaluate a player is a terrible way to determine value, or anything really.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
He also gets on base at a better clip than Jeter. Jeter's having a tremendous year, but I don't think it's an insult to him to point out the Cano makes fewer outs and also hits for more power. And Cano's also been intentionally walked more than the 2nd and 3rd guys in that category on the team -- meaning other teams are pitching around him in important situations.
It's hard to imagine a scenario where he isn't more valuable."Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games" -- Mr. Coffee

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
Oh, I see how this debate got started.

Offensively, the numbers are a lot closer than you're suggesting.
Btw, without looking, I bet more than half those walks came batting 4th or 5th in the lineup. I would walk my own Grandmother any day of the week to get to Jones, Ibanez, Martin or whoever else Joe decides to stash their.

Re: 2012 Robinson Cano performance thread
I never saw that article, and haven't participated in most of this debate, but the numbers aren't really that close. Right now, Cano's wRC+ is 143 and his WAR is 6.3, and Jeter is at 121 and 3.5, respectively. Cano has a slightly better OBP and a much better slugging percentage.
But, Sweet Lou does have a point - Jeter is probably the team MVP against LHs"Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games" -- Mr. Coffee
