A good article about Charleston's win today. Note that Austin hit his homer to the opposite field. Also, Mason isn't 150 lbs anymore. He looks to be about 180 or more now.

matt: in your Yankees prospect recap you didn't mention Gumbs at all. There seems to be a divide on whether he is a sleeper pick in the system, nothing, or just average. what's your opinion? can he stay at 2B? potential everyday regular? star? replacement?

Klaw: Just another guy. Wouldn't project him or Culver as major league regulars.

ed: How is there no backlash on the Culver draft pick when talking about Cashman? To say that he missed on that pick is a huge understatement

Klaw:Because they're the first team to ever miss on a late first-round pick, right?

Philly Baby: What is up with Betances and Banuelos? Is Ca$hman braindead or just unlucky?

Klaw: Banuelos is hurt. Betances should probably go to the pen at some point this year, since that's his likely destination anyway.

Mike: Why do you think Betances will likely end up in the pen when he has demonstrated absolutely no command -- or event control -- of his pitches? It's not like a relief pitcher can absorb poor command any better than a starter.

Klaw: I believe they can, because they don't have to face hitters twice and can often pitch with more velocity. If Betances is sitting 98 in the pen, he can miss his spot and still get outs.

Joe: Mason William and Tyler Austin are playing really well (and both from the same draft as Cito Culver!) in the early going. How soon should the Yankees consider moving them up to A+? Or should they stay at Charleston all year?

Klaw: I wouldn't rush either guy.

Steven: I know this is anecdotal but given Granderson at the major league level and Bichette in the minors, are the Yankees one of the best organizations at identifing and correcting swing flaws (though major props to Granderson and Bichette for putting in the work).

Klaw: Happened with Cano too, right? That's a pretty good troika of names.

Law always thought Bichette was too pull happy and would be unable to cover the outside edge of the plate.

Law's hate of the pick and the "overdraft" of Bichette probably indicates the Yankees felt they could improve on his supposed ceiling with a fix in his swing, IMO.

seriously, there's probably a handful of players that do everything the same from when they are drafted to making their big league debut. being able to see beyond what a 17 year olds swing looks like now as to what it can be with pro coaching is part of what scouting is about.

Injury update on Yankees pitching prospect Manny Banuelos: Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that lefty Manny Banuelos is expected to be back soon for Triple-A SWB. “He's probably about seven days away,” general manager Brian Cashman said. The 21-year-old Banuelos posted a 10.13 ERA in two starts before going on the DL two weeks ago with what Cashman called a pulled lat. He allowed 21 baserunners in 5 1/3 innings over his two starts.

Which top 100 prospect has increase their stock the most?
Jim Shonerd: Just picking out one name, and Ben Badler blogged about him earlier this week, but Mason Williams (No. 85 on this year's Top 100) has really impressed so far in low Class A, hitting .329/.365/.481. Lots of tools there.
