2012 Chicago White Sox thread
I am afraid it will be a brutal season for the real Sox.

Cubs lose by day, Sox win at night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
I will be thrilled if he has Mendoza numbers in 2012. Dunn looked like a great signing at the time but.
We have problems long term. Reinsdorf would not allow any Boras clients to be drafted. I am willing to bet that Scott Boras pays as much for scouting as most MLB teams.
Our farm system is ranked dead last by EVERYONE. Attendance this year will most likely be under two million.
I question how the White Sox develop players. Most of the minor league teams are in the Southeast and none are in cold weather cities. Scouts claim that for a team in a northern market, it is imperative to see how prospects handle cold weather. You have Scranton and Trenton. One would think we should have a team in the Midwest League but.

Here's hoping for your sake today wasn't a fluke for Dunn. I'd love to see him bounce back. Great guy.

I'd like to thank the White Sox personel for ruining Gordon Beckham...stinkin Bulldogs.

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
I hope the White Sox have a good year. If there were no Yankees, I'd probably root for the ChiSox. Passionate and hardcore fans in a great American city. The Sox have never been as cute or faddish as the Cubs (major plusses in my book).
Dunn, Rios, and Beckham have to show something this year, right? I mean, they can't possibly be that bad again, right?

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
Dunn, Peavy, and Rios continue to get it done and earn their money this year so far. Peavy with a 3-hit CG shutout last night, Dunn with another HR last night, and Rios with 3 hits a day after he had 3 hits, 2 RBI in Seattle. Funny how the team plays better when its four (along with Konerko) highest-paid players play like it.

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
I have no doubt it was cold, I live in Minnesota so I know. But don't talk about the passion and hardcore of a fanbase that for years hasn't supported it's team from the ticket office. Hell Kenny has come out in past years and said more payroll can get added if more reveune is brought in...AKA GET TO GAMES SO I CAN SPEND MONEY!!!
There's nothing passionate about a fair weather fan base.

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
Back in April I certainly did not expect the Pale Hose to be where they are at.
I was fearing the worst in the Bronx after we had been swept by the Royals.
You may be wondering why attendance was so so for the NY games. A lot of factors involved
Many Chicagoland school systems are back in session which hurts the southsiders more than the Cubs.
But without question it is the idiotic 'dynamic pricing' that just makes people stay at home.
Last night the CHEAPEST ticket was $33.45..... same seats Friday night for all powerful Seattle - 10 bucks. A seat in section 538 may as well be in Ontario.
Day of game cost to park at U.S. Cellular Field lots is $25 on weekdays (Mon. – Fri.) and $23 on weekends (Sat. – Sun.). Fans paying cash may park in Lots F, L, or G.
While the team has its roots in the south side many of these fans now live in the western and northern burbs and Chicago during the week is a traffic nightmare.
The CTA is an option for some but it isn't great

METRA has a new station but the time of the trains isn't great for weeknights.

It is going to be much worse next year as the CTA Red Line will be CLOSED for the entire summer to rebuilt the trainbed.

Well what did we learn this week? That Youkliss still likes to stick it too us.
They have a good pitching staff. And let's hope we don't get them in the
first round of the playoffs!

Getting beat by Ramirez and Beckham is something that shouldn't happen to a major league team. I like our chances against them in October.

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
I think everyone can agree that Hawk is a terrible announcer, perhaps the worst. That said, I think he was totally justified here and in that last clip that was posted a while back.
I'm not sure why it's frowned upon when an announcer calls out an umpire for being completely bad at his job.
Kudos Hawk. Every once in a while you're ok.I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Re: 2012 Chicago White Sox thread
At least Sterling doesn't sound like some he-haw redneck. But, hey, it obviously works in Chicago; it just wouldn't go over well in NY.
