Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
His throw was so wild that the baserunner gets second on the E.
Even if he could have just pulled Swisher off the bag a little, so Swish still could have caught it and held the runner to one base.............................but nooooooooo.

He's strictly a pinch runner.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Jeter must be hurting more than anyone is letting on, since otherwise no one in their right mind - even Girardi - should consider playing Nunez at SS for any of the final games!
It's downright deflating to all the momentum since yesterday's game!

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Jeter's range stinks and has often deserved criticism though. he's sure-handed and, most importantly, has had a hell of a better bat over his career than Nunez could ever dream of having, so he makes up for it.
if Nunez could actually hit like his biggest champions like to pretend he could, he'd deserve less wrath. as it is, he's not really good at anything except being fast... and he's not even a good enough baserunner to make full use of his speed.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
I know he doesn't have Nunez's speed, but Nix this year isn't hitting any worse than Nunez did last year (I realize he also doesn't have NunE's splits vs. LHP this year, but historically he's been solid against lefties). And he doesn't have feet for hands.
He should be starting at short when Jeter DHs or gets a day off. Period.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
He's not just "not good" on the field. It's not that he doesn't have range or has a weak arm. He's a genuine "hold your breath" liability.
A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
It really is astonishing that they continue to put him out there. I mean, I don't think you'd play Babe Ruth at SS if he fielded like that.

QUOTE OF THE DAY (via Lohud):
Girardi likes what the fast-moving Nunez brings overall.
“He give us excitement out there,” Girardi said.
Serenity now, serenity now ..........

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
I don't really understand what is attractive about Nunez. I realize minor league stats have to be taken with a grain of salt, but he has a career .314 obp in nearly 3,000 plate appearances across 7 seasons in the minor leagues. this year, his ops was .544 for Scranton.
At the major league level at least, he obviously cannot be a reliable infielder.
What exactly does he bring to bear? I know Nix isn't anything special, but why are the Yankees putting up with some theoretical learning curve with Nunez when in fact he's not shown at any level that he's a good player?
And he's 25 and has been in organized baseball since he was 18. This isn't a 22 year old kid with two years in the league or something. What exactly do they think he's going to develop into?

The best way Nunez could help the Yankees is to trade his ass to Baltimore and make him an embedded Yankee.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
This kid just might get the start this afternoon.
Save Nix for D in the latter innings depending on how the game unfolds.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Actually a heck of game by Nuney. One of Joe's moves that really worked. Unfortunately Chavez was eaten up by a ball he fields 49 out of 50 times.
Baseball is life;
the rest is just details.
