Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
A glove, a glove, my kingdom for a glove.
I like Nunie, but honestly, his lack of ability in the field is disastrous. With the amount of offense this team will usually put up, I'd rather have a glove man playing the left side of the infield when someone gets a day off. His errors put too much stress on the pitching, and if he keeps it up, it might even get into some pitcher's heads. We don't need that.Yes, I'm a girl.

He's erratic and he's probably never gonna change. What we need is for him to be a cheap backup for a few years. His D might well cause our staff problems - and I hate that - but I suspect he'll keep getting time to play because we must protect Derek and Alex.

I hope they're right. So far tonight he's made a couple of nice plays and one not so good. As it looks as if he's going to get lots of playing time, let's hope that his offseason defensive coaching pays off. This winter, Nunez worked out with Robinson Cano and Albert Pujols in the Dominican Republic.
“We had a hitting coach,” Nunez siad. “We had somebody for the gym, training. We had somebody for running. But we don’t have anybody for defense because (Cano)’s a Gold Glove. But I need defense. We talked and we called the guy and he came to help me.”
At Camp Cano, Nunez had an infield instructor hired specifically to help Nunez with his defense.
“He helped me a thousand percent, seriously,” Nunez said. “So confident. My throw is so quiet, a quality throw. … I have to prove, show (Girardi) I can play defense too. I don’t want him to take me out in the bottom of the eighth, bottom of the seventh, (saying) ‘Hey Nuney, you can’t play defense.’”
The Yankees believe Nunez can handle the infield, and they’re going to give him every chance to prove it.
“For this team to be successful, I think he has to play well,” Girardi said.

Chavez should be at 3rd. Trade Nunez. Rather have someone with a glove.

Nunez should be in the outfield, Swisher needs to go. Nunez has a good bat that will get better, his defense is shoddy.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
I think what Nunez adds at the plate against lefties and on the base path is worth giving his defense a shot. If the errors continue I think you have to use Chavez more often to give ARod rest. Nunez has a lot more upside than Chavez too so it definitely makes sense to give him more playing time now.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Nunez hasn't even shown he can hit consistently at the major league level enough to be of starting quality as a SS (at least on a contending team).
the team may let Swisher leave in FA, but the answer to RF when/if that happens sure as hell ain't 'Nuney'.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Nunez barely has a bat suited for the infield; he's not gonna hack it in a corner outfield spot.

Nunez may very well be the least coordinated player in baseball.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
The more we play him, the less the rest of the league will think he's a starting shortstop; thus decreasing his eventual trade value. In light of this, they need to play him less.

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
the question is how much do they think they need to play him at SS or 3d to see if he can be a regular, and what effect playing him that often will have on the Yankees' record this year! His bat will at least have to make up for his errors

Re: 2012 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
For me, he should omly play at shortstop because when you need to rest Alex, you do it against a righty starter so you can play Chavez at the hot corner. That way, both Alex and Derek get rest but you aren't relying on Nunez too much. Plus, Chavez D is still very smooth.
