Wot's so special about it? I mean, wot do you have there that gives you the taste and serious reminder of NYC, but in yer own hometown? C'mon, offer up the goodies about wot's really good about that place.

Theres no secret really. It's just the food is outstanding and the atmosphere is great as well. It's a deli but you can sit down and eat like you could in a restaurant. That's uncommon.

The pastrami is great. That's what I usually get when I get over there. They also have some great homemade pickles. It's not really convienent for me, it's closer to where my wife works. They go there quite a bit, though she's not really a deli kind of gal. I think she get some kind of soup or a tuna salad when she goes.

I haven't been in a long time, but there's an awesome Jewish Deli in Hartsdale, NY (Westchester near White Plains). Epsteins. They have full restaurant seating, but you can take food to go or have it delivered/catered.

I remember going there with my parents as a kid (it's been there since way before that too) and it's still there. They are also kosher.

I pass it a lot when I go down county to the dentist and shop around, but I have not stopped in in many years. Next time I am down that way, I am definitely going to stop in. I had forgotten all about Epsteins until reading this thread!

I normally get a pastromi on rye there. Although there are many good things there. They make great potato pancakes. Something I used to love when I could eat potatoes.

Yes and as Steve says the pickles are incredible. But you better like garlic. Love this place.

Rizzo, I remember that you had dietary restrictions. Atkins diet? Which deli foods are you not allowed? I know that potatoes, rice & bread are starchy.

You can have fruit juice, or a yogurt smoothie? Sometimes I'll get one of those, or something from the salad bar.

Speaking of salads, I think the place is called Quick Deli, but it's at 32nd & Broadway. They have an awesome a la carte salad bar. You get a wide variety of add-ons, from tuna, cheese, different chicken types. They also have hot food. They really making a killing at lunch time with their salads.

I much prefer this over the small or large salads w/either 4 or 6 ingredients, where everything is portioned out to you.

I once read that at some Jewish delis, the pickles are the first thing on the table. I don't really understand the ritual. I happen to like the Vlasic Kosher pickles, but never elevated it beyond just being a sandwich addition.

I've only used garlic for cooking.

If you're ever in Florida, don't miss TooJay's Gourmet Deli. Excellent NY style deli. They have 25 locations throughout the state, including Tampa if you're down for ST. I've been to a couple of the Orlando area locations and have never been disappointed. The food's amazing.

Rein's Deli is in Vernon, CT, and it's probably 1/3 of a mile from my house.

And it's ok. My wife loves their chocolate cake, she often gets their hot open roast beef sandwhiches. like steve said, the atmosphere is nice, but not unique unless you mean in CT.. and it is. there are NO real deli's here. I've seen better jewish deli's in the suburbs of long island, where i grew up. lake success had one, and it was a sit-down resturant too.

Katz's Deli in Woodbridge (Amity) is supposed to be very good but I'm no judge because I'm not much of a deli person.
