Swisher leaves tonight's (3/20) Game With Possible Groin Injury

Nick Swisher was back in the lineup tonight after battling groin issues. With runners on the corners and no out in the bottom of the third, Swisher hit a ground ball to third. Hustling down the line, he seemed to re-injure the groin and immediately left the game after reaching first base safely.

Early speculation is a reaggravation of the previous groin injury.

EDIT: From the LoHud game post:

    – Nick Swisher has been pulled from the game after running gingerly on a ground ball to third. This was his first game since feeling that tightness in his groin last week in Dunedin. He was immediately replaced by Justin Maxwell.
EDIT: Girardi said on his in-game interview on YES that Swisher said that it was the other hip flexor that tightened up today but that he didn't feel it pull.

Just got back from the clubhouse. Swisher was pulled because of tightness in his right groin (it was his left groin last time). He said it felt the exact same, just on the other side. He’s planning to take some more days off and maybe do some extra stretching to loosen that area. He wonders if his hips are tighter from the extra work he did this offseason.

The kid Justin Maxwell that filled in last night for Swish did great, I know it was against the Pirates. When Girardi was on during the 5th inn last night he said he was going to give Sish @ 5 days off.

hope this doesnt linger into the regular season
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

When it comes to our outfield depth in the OF and Chris Dickerson specifically I always find it interesting that Dickerson looks the part of a individual who you would think should be starting in a major league outfield and at the minimum be league average if given the opportunity to play.

Shows that there is a fine line between talent and actual production because Dickerson seams like a talented baseball player and athlete.

Hope it's no big deal and Swish is healthy by opening day.

    Damon in RF? Horrors!

I hate to see the Yankees give Maxwell away, however. He is out of options and would not clear waivers. He looks like he has finally gotten it together. OTOH, he is not going to replace Swisher this year and he bats right so he is not really an option to platoon with Jones in place of Ibanez.
