A bit chilly at the moment, but he's certainly pitched in much worse conditions than this. I want him to kick some Sea Dog butt on Monday!

Re: 2012 Andy Pettitte Performance Thread

Andy might not be pitching in Portland after all:
    http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2012/04/2...e-from-garcia/
Because of weather concerns in Maine, Andy Pettitte’s next minor league start might be shifted from Double-A to High-A. Girardi said a decision will likely be made today whether to have Pettitte go ahead with Monday’s scheduled start in Portland or to move that start down to Tampa. “Basically, he feels good though,” Girardi said. “That’s the good thing. He’s bouncing back really well.”
    Also from the same source:
    • Girardi said the timing of the Roger Clemens trial will not affect when the Yankees bring Pettitte up to New York. The team is not worried about the distraction of Pettitte needing to testify. “That has not really been brought into determining when we would call him back, no,” Girardi said. “I don’t know how much time or if any time he’s going to have to spend there, but that has not been in our conversations.”

Mark Feinsand@BloggingBombers Andy Pettitte gave up 6 runs (5 earned) over 5 2/3 innings in an extended spring game against the Phillies. (10 H, 0 BB, 8 K, 96 pitches).

I still think the results aren't that much of a concern, other than PC. Heard it was also hella windy

I'd assume if it were an issue we'd know about it at this point and i refuse to use anymore punctuation for this sentence because i believe that it will make it more fun and not necessarily easy to read a good challenge for the great forumers here

How did he perform in court today? Supposedly refused to make eye contact with Clemens ...

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/78...-perjury-trial
"Roger had mentioned to me that he had taken HGH," Pettitte testified, referring to human growth hormone. "And that it could help with recovery, and that's really all I remember about the conversation."

It's a conversation that Clemens has famously claimed that Pettitte "misremembers."

Pettitte testified mostly with his hands clasped in front of him and rarely looked at Clemens, even during the lengthy delays when lawyers held conferences at the judge's bench. Clemens frequently took notes. The two haven't spoken recently because of the trial, but Pettitte nevertheless said he found it difficult to testify because he still considers Clemens a good friend.

    ...

Pettitte has acknowledged he received HGH from McNamee; Clemens has not. Pettitte told the jury about the time he used HGH in 2002 while recovering from an injury, but he wasn't allowed to say he was injected by McNamee because the judge ruled that information inadmissible.

Pettitte said he used HGH one other time, in 2004. He said regretted it both times he tried it, that he doesn't think it helped him physically and that it has tarnished his name.

"I wish I never would've" taken HGH, he said. "If I hadn't done it, I wouldn't be here today."
Before he could begin testifying about Clemens, Pettitte had to answer very rudimentary questions meant to educate a jury that knows little about baseball, leading him to make statements such as: "The Boston Red Sox play in Boston."

When I saw "a jury that knows little about baseball" I figured maybe they had loaded up the jury with ESPN on-air personalities. But they would definitely already know the Boston Red Sox play in Boston.

    • Andy Pettitte has been testifying during the Roger Clemens trial today in Washington. Girardi said Pettitte migth get an extra day and make his next minor league start on Sunday rather than Saturday, and it’s unclear whether that will be his final minor league tuneup. “That has to be determined by the people that are watching him,” Girardi said. “I get reports, but my eyes aren’t on him to exactly know what’s going on.”

It's ridiculous that Pettitte's schedule may have to be adjusted because Clemens refuses to say "enough". It's also sad that Andy still considers Roger to be a good friend.

If anyone needs proof that this trial is a momumental waste of time and money, exactly how does explaining the disabled list and what city the Red Sox play in going to give the jury a better idea of whether to conclude that Clemens took steroids?

clearly you've never sat on a jury. unless it talked about in court like you are a 2 year old over and over again, sometimes by multiple witnesses, it's like it never happened.

But yeah, I agree this a monumental waste of time and money.

He's going to be completely ineffective, along the lines of a Garcia. Sorry to be negative, but I just have a feeling and all logic points that way, as much as everyone is desperately hoping otherwise.

He'll somehow need to replace both Phelps AND Hughes. He's Andy Pettitte. He can do it.

Pettitte replaces Phelps and then Phelps replaces Hughes in the rotation. Hughes could then go to the bullpen and become the 7th inning pitcher with Soriano taking Robertson's spot since D Rob will be taking Mo's spot.
