The contract Pettitte signed - is it guaranteed money?

Marc Carig @MarcCarig
Once Pettitte let Cashman know that he had kept throwing in the winter, it became about negotiating pay. 2.5m not guaranteed, no incentives.

Re: 2012 Andy Pettitte Performance Thread
He's clearly not in it for the money, because he could have probably worked out a better deal (at least incentive wise) had he signed earlier.
I don't like the idea of him potentially taking a spot away from one of the five guys in AAA while he tunes up, but I do think it could be valuable for the guys down there to see his work ethic."Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games" -- Mr. Coffee

Re: 2012 Andy Pettitte Performance Thread
Really hope that he is not just awarded a rotation spot regardless of his results. Heard he's going to be pitching some games in Trenton since Scranton doesn't have a home base this year.

Pettitte threw a scoreless inning in his first game since ending a one-year retirement and the New York Yankees beat the New York Mets 8-3 on Wednesday.
"It felt good to be able to get out there and get the inning in, especially in a big league game" Pettitte said. "It definitely felt a little weird, there's no doubt about it. Once I got out there, it was just like you never left. It was fun."
Many of the announced crowd of 10,813 at Steinbrenner Field gave Pettitte a standing ovation when he took the mound to start the sixth. The left-hander allowed one baserunner, coming on Cory Vaughn's leadoff single to right.

Scout at the game: Pettitte's at 87-89, good command and movement to both sides. SL better than CB. Change is OK. Looks ready. #YankeesJosh Norris@jnorris427
Same scout: Pettitte looks ready, but just needs to be stretched out. #Yankees.

Re: 2012 Andy Pettitte Performance Thread
Got all pumped up to learn that Pettitte's pitching for Trenton here in Portland Monday night, until I realized I have a late appointment and will be unable to go. Would love to see him throw in the cozy confines of Hadlock Stadium, but will be excited for great results nonetheless. Good luck, Andy. We need ya!
