The CAROLINA FORCE select: OF Josh Bell, Pittsburgh Pirates.

Scouting Report: Bell was one of the best high-school bats in the 2011 Draft class but was deemed unsignable until the Pirates took a shot and got an above-slot deal done in the second round. He is a legitimate switch-hitter who has plus hit and power tools from both sides of the plate. He has an advanced approach at the plate and will work counts and draw walks along the way. He played center field in high school, but with average speed, he’ll probably move over to a corner spot, where he should be an above-average defender. He has the arm, and certainly the bat, to profile well in right field.


With the final addition to their revamped minor league system, the Force are happy to bring a young up and coming OF with all the tools to be great. We expect Mr.Bell to add his name to an impressive list of elite OF's that started out in the force farm system (the likes of Stanton & Heyward).

I'm curious.... was there something that highlighted Bogaerts recently on tv or on line? I had someone draft him in my other league yesterday and according to most lists you need to dig pretty deep to know who he is. Unless I'm missing something. Not saying it's a bad pick, it's impressive actually. I am just stunned at both how early he went in both leagues and the fact that the guy in my other league even heard of him. Here I expect it, very deep draft with 20 teams.

I didn't see anything recently on Bogaerts. He's 58 on the BA top 100 and regarded a little higher on the other lists that I've been following. It seemed like the right time to take a high ceiling player that was going to end up at 3B or SS.

Besides, his name can be rearranged to spell "A Sandbox Regret." I think that's reason enough to draft him.
