Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Hard to believe Nova has a 5.69 ERA. He has a K/9 of 9.6 with 3.3 K:BB but has allowed 65 hits in just 49 IP.
Furthermore, opponents are slugging .609 against him, and he has a BAbip of .393. Whoa.
Those should correct over time. Just has to keep pitching the way he has been. I think the production against him is a little flukey and skewed right now.GO YANKS

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
He's still trying to figure out how to use his much improved breaking stuff and sometime forgets that his best pitch is still his fastball.

"I told my trainer that at the first opportunity, I wanted to sign with the Yankees," Nova said. "He would tell me that [we] could possibly get more money elsewhere. I told him I didn't care. I wanted to sign with the Yankees."

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
He has really tight breaks on his breaking balls. I didn't catch the start, but is he still throwing everything in the strike zone?

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Right now he seems to be successful because the Yanks give him enough runs to win. Stop constantly mentioning all the negative stats about his pitching and just enjoy the fact that he hasn't missed a turn in the rotation and will be learning something new everytime he takes the mound. As I said before, he has the ability to be very useful and successful at the major league level......plus the fact that he is young!

Atleast he gave some shutdown innings after the 4th, but man he really needs to stop giving up so many XBH's.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Remember the forearm problem he had last year? A lot of times loss of control while maintaining velocity is a sign of elbow problems. He's just not close to the pitcher he was last year when going well
I'm really hoping it's just a young pitcher's maturation problems, not a physical issueGreetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Maybe he is just afraid to challenge hitters. A guy who touches 97 shouldn't be relying so heavily on breaking balls assuming he can spot his FB.

He's last in MLB in opponent's slugging percentage and opponents' OPS out of 120 pitchers.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
This was the Nova I love to see. It's these kind of games that really make me feel that if someone really does need to be traded. It's Hughes. (And I really like Hughes) I love Nova though. We have just beaten the Rays without to many hits/run surrendered. That's pretty good!
Still and will always be a New England Patriots fan.
