He may have been a number 2 in the NL West, but IMO his stuff does not translate to a number 2 in the AL EAST. 10 million for that dude is a gross overpay.
The FA market rate for a No.2 is much higher than a year $10M contract.

I understand. Based on what I've seen I just don't see Kuroda as a 10 million dollar pitcher. I have to believe the decision to sign him was most likely made based on his stats in the NL West.

Kuroda has actually pitched pretty well. His W/L doesn't show it, but he's pitched better than CC overall. I'd like to see him get his walk rate down and he's not really a strikeout guy, but other than that he's been pretty good.

what else are they going to make decisions on...his Japan stats? $10 mil for a #3 is fine with me

Nova was straight up dealing the first four innings. The fifth kind of got away, because he was obviously trying to make it a fast inning. Was fun to watch

Nova pitched really well last night. You're not always going to have clean innings. He did a really nice job keeping the runs down and getting out of some really tough jams. Swisher did an excellent job helping that also.

Since 2002, MLB payroll has grown from about 2 billion to 2.9 billion. No. 2, or even No. 3 pitchers really, don't come on 10/1 contracts anymore.

The going price for No. 2s is more like AJ and Lackey's 82.5/5

Some of the stuff you read on these boards, sheesh.

A 1/$10MM deal for Kuroda is not just an overpay, but a GROSS overpay? And you're certain of this based on the first few weeks of the season?

You never cease to amaze me.

    I'm with you False.

Yeah it is pretty funny. Especially when you consider that in the SSS this year Kuroda has 116 ERA+ so far or 2 points higher than his career cushy NL West ERA+

Not to mention, he's actually been pretty solid.

    ^this.

Big difference in AA Nova and this Nova.

Padres couldn't afford to keep him on the roster and get blasted, he just wasn't ready yet.

He's allowed at least 5 runs in four of his last five starts.

It's puzzling that in the middle of what otherwise looks like a great start, he gives up 5 runs...

Given the lineup the Reds field, a pitcher should never let Votto beat him. He should never give him anything to hit, at least with a base open. IMO, the Yankees lost that game because of bad strategy.

Both he and Hughes have stellar strikeout and walk rates, but not much else to show for it. Guess that's what happens when you serve up a bazillion xbh's.

It's too bad that Ibanez has to play the field do much because his glove is anything but adequate. Granted Nova did not pitch his best today but that 2nd inning "double" run should have never happened as a RF has to catch that ball.

Is he throwing all of his pitches for strikes or what? You can do breaking balls in the dirt sometimes. That line from yesterday, except for IP of course, looks strangely like a Burnett line.

I wish the Yanks would just leave him alone and let him take his lumps and build on it. In almost any other city, Nova would be allowed to grow as a pitcher without the constant criticism that he gets in NY. The talent is there for him to develop into a very useful, successful major league pitcher....he's young!

Since 1918 it was the 67th time a pitcher had at least 12 strikeouts and at least 5 earned runs allowed. It was the eighth time a pitcher did that in 6 innings or fewer. It was the second time a Yankee did that and the first time a Yankee did that in 6 innings or fewer.

Maybe it will dim the " K's above all else " fetish

It's the basis of FIP ( along w/ HR )

How about the old Nova that didn't K too many batters, but got weak ground out after weak ground out?

To be fair, you take away the HR to Votto and we're not even having this discussion. I don't think the problem is too many K's as much as it was simply a bad decision to challenge Votto.
