Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Nova was straight up dealing the first four innings. The fifth kind of got away, because he was obviously trying to make it a fast inning. Was fun to watch

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Nova pitched really well last night. You're not always going to have clean innings. He did a really nice job keeping the runs down and getting out of some really tough jams. Swisher did an excellent job helping that also.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Since 2002, MLB payroll has grown from about 2 billion to 2.9 billion. No. 2, or even No. 3 pitchers really, don't come on 10/1 contracts anymore.
The going price for No. 2s is more like AJ and Lackey's 82.5/5

Some of the stuff you read on these boards, sheesh.
A 1/$10MM deal for Kuroda is not just an overpay, but a GROSS overpay? And you're certain of this based on the first few weeks of the season?
You never cease to amaze me.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
He's allowed at least 5 runs in four of his last five starts.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
It's puzzling that in the middle of what otherwise looks like a great start, he gives up 5 runs...

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Given the lineup the Reds field, a pitcher should never let Votto beat him. He should never give him anything to hit, at least with a base open. IMO, the Yankees lost that game because of bad strategy.

Both he and Hughes have stellar strikeout and walk rates, but not much else to show for it. Guess that's what happens when you serve up a bazillion xbh's.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
It's too bad that Ibanez has to play the field do much because his glove is anything but adequate. Granted Nova did not pitch his best today but that 2nd inning "double" run should have never happened as a RF has to catch that ball.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Is he throwing all of his pitches for strikes or what? You can do breaking balls in the dirt sometimes. That line from yesterday, except for IP of course, looks strangely like a Burnett line.

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
I wish the Yanks would just leave him alone and let him take his lumps and build on it. In almost any other city, Nova would be allowed to grow as a pitcher without the constant criticism that he gets in NY. The talent is there for him to develop into a very useful, successful major league pitcher....he's young!

Re: 2012 Ivan Nova Performance Thread
Since 1918 it was the 67th time a pitcher had at least 12 strikeouts and at least 5 earned runs allowed. It was the eighth time a pitcher did that in 6 innings or fewer. It was the second time a Yankee did that and the first time a Yankee did that in 6 innings or fewer.

Maybe it will dim the " K's above all else " fetish
It's the basis of FIP ( along w/ HR )
How about the old Nova that didn't K too many batters, but got weak ground out after weak ground out?Greetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US
