I'm more concerned about his 2 year slump.

Is even going to get more ABs in the WBC than he could get in ST games?

Mike Axisa tweeted a great article. Tex admits he's overpaid, and that he's not the player he used to be. The tone came off as he's still going to do his best, but understands he may not be the Tex of old.

The part I do like though, is Tex says that players who make 20m are often overpaid. He said he was valuable before he became a FA because he was making so little. Guys like trout are valuable because he makes so little.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira knows that fans see his eight-year, $180MM contract as an overpay, and he doesn't disagree, writes Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal. "Agents are probably going to hate me for saying it," the 33-year-old said. "You're not very valuable when you're making $20MM. When you're Mike Trout, making the minimum, you are crazy valuable. My first six years, before I was a free agent, I was very valuable. But there's nothing you can do that can justify a $20MM contract."
Yeah I was just coming here to post that. At least he gets it.

For those who were looking for a link to the actual article, which is by Daniel Barbarisi and appeared in the Wall Street Journal, here it is:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...297928128.html

This winter, Teixeira is accepting his new normal. After three seasons that for him would be considered down years, Teixeira is done tinkering with new ideas, done chasing a perpetual peak. If he is a .250 hitter, so be it. He is embracing his strengths—30-homer power, 90-walk patience, Gold Glove defense—and forgetting his weaknesses, on what he openly calls the backside of his career.

"This is my 11th year," Teixeira said. "I'm not going to play 10 more years. I want 5 or 6 good ones. So that would say I'm on the backside of my career. And instead of trying to do things differently on the backside of my career, why not focus on the things I do well, and try to be very good at that?"

It's always risky business trying to figure out who has or hasn't used PED's, but Tex's comments are interesting in light of all the ARod news this week.

Maybe if ARod had taken a similar view on things that Tex did, and realized it was impossible to truly live up to the contract and that it is impossible to stave off decline forever, he would have accepted the pressure and aging more gracefully and would be winding down his career in dignity and as a sure fire first ballot HOF'er....much the way Jeter is, and Jeter wasn't blessed with ARod's ability (although now I'm not even sure what level ARod's natural ability was to begin with)

I'm still confident that he can give the Yankees a few 120-130 OPS+ seasons in the future.

What difference does it make? Despite the comments, he's only 32 and is production isn't anywhere near the level he's paid at. He declined too rapidly. Its vital to this club that he have something of a bounce back, or he's going to be an anchor for the Yankees.

I'm having trouble lauding someone for having a small sense of self awareness.

The thing that really stinks is that I like Teixeira, but find myself criticizing him and his impact on the Yankees all the time. Give us a high .800s OPS so this can all go away.

I don't find baseball boring, I just think that it's cool that we can sometimes lighten up a bit and try some humor for a change.

we have plenty of humor around here. Visit some of the other forums and you'll see. But I'm fairly certain if this discussion continues for much longer the thread will be closed or the posts will be deleted. The hotness of players and posting photos to back it up is one of the first things mentioned as unacceptable discussion here. Not sure how much it's being moderated but just giving you fair warning to not be surprised. I'm not going to report it but someone eventually will.
