Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
I'm going to go ahead and award Mr. Snapple a style point, simply for being optimistic in the Tex thread. It's been years since that has happened.
Plus, Snapple always knows important facts and shares them under his caps, like: a strawberry is not an actual berry, but a banana is.
Ya'll can't step to that kind of factual prominence. Cut the kid some slack.

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
He at least strung together a couple hits. If anything, we remember that these guys are humans and it could have bolstered his confidence. He knows he's a slow starter. Any hits early on can only be good for him.

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
well....the double *should* count as a good hit because he hit it to the opposite field, and it found a spot where the shifted fielders had to run about a 1/3 of a mile to get to to field the ball.

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
He looks no different from last year so far...thats the point. Until he starts resembling an elite player again, people will be criticizing him and rightly so. His last two years have eliminated any slack he had or other players might get for slow starts i.e Cano or Granderson. Thats just the way it is.

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
unless i'm remembering it wrong, he was batting LH and flared one to LF along the line. if they weren't shifted one of 3 guys would've made that catch easily. but the 3B was shaded oh about 80 feet right of the 3rd base bag, and the LF was somewhere near Boog's grill out in CF.

Isn't that exactly what people were clamoring for?

Should we do a daily update? 0-3 today. Where are all the positive Pollys?

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
That's not it at all. I think some of you mistaking my posts for expecting 100% devotion and praise for Teixeira. I'm just saying that it's really cute that the negative Nancys are all gone when he finally strings a few hits together. But if he has an off day, you get lengthy posts, rehashing the same old arguments, about how people dislike him (currently).

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
Nothing wrong with being a glass half full kind of person. Nothing at all. You seem to think everyone wants Tex to fail which couldn't be further from the truth. People are just tired of seeing a guy that's getting paid top dollar continue to make the same mistake over & over again. He's not being paid to be the version we've seen the past two years.

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
He's a traditionally a slow starter. I'll be worried if he still doesn't have a HR in June.
I liked what I saw in Spring though, showed the patience that made him an elite hitter in the past.

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
and I guess that's part of it, too. I'l admit I haven't been 100% clear in my posts. Haven't had time to list out everything. And, again, there is a huge bias from my side.
Here's a question I haven't seen asked or answered (if it has, please kindly direct me to the answer):
How much are the opposing pitchers taken into consideration with things like BABIP? Today in the Game On! Thread, we were pretty quick to give Kuroda praise for GIDP - as though he did it on purpose. What's to say that pitchers aren't just feeding Tex with hit-able pitches that will go to the right side of the field...or something
?

Re: 2012 Mark Teixeira Performance Thread
He should just fake injuries in April from here on out. His stats suffer so much, and the hole he digs makes it really hard to recover.

Tex hit a couple of hard balls today. Needs to stay patient and lay off the curves in the dirt and the change ups falling away.
