Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
Yeah unfortunately it won't be all that grandiose if he does end up breaking it, they'll be some fanfare, but it won't be nearly as huge of a party as we thought it would be 4 years ago.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when he breaks Mays record next year, see what kind of reaction that garners.

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
from the "who'd a-thunk-it club":
Russell Martin has one more homer (19 vs. 18) than A-Rod with 40 less ABs.....Raul Ibanez has the same total as A-Rod with 77 less ABs....
Imagine if A-Rod, Cano and Teixeira can all get hot in October?

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
Right now Alex looks lost up there. At this point in the season there is cause for concern. Even mediocre pitchers aren't afraid to challenge him now.

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
He will if he is say 10 HRs from the record after 2017. They were willing to give him 6 million bonus for tying the record and another 6 for breaking the record. So I could see him getting 17+ million for one year in 2018, if he has any kind of productivity in 2017. And of course he also gets the obligatory player option for 2019 thrown in.

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
296ABs he's now sporting a .721 OPS against RHP
.912 against LHP in 142AB
Good to know that he's hitting like a $30Million platoon player this year

Yeah but he's a "presence" in the lineup.

If I'm an opposing pitcher trying to navigate this lineup, I go right after A-Rod and dare him to hit my fastball. He probably won't.

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
He is an admitted, busted steroid user in an era where the backlash against the cheaters is still fresh and heated. On top of that he was a polarizing figure even before that. If he can't break the record on his current contract it means he'll be a broken down, total shell of himself that likely can't stay healthy or hit for any power. No one is going to sign him because nobody is going to care about him holding the record.
Win one for The Boss.

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
Given the way he has been playing, I suspect there will be no way he breaks the home run record, so we won't have to worry about any of this.

God these righty/lefty splits are putrid.
OPS almost 200 points lower against RHP, Slugging over 100 points lower, OBP almost 80 points lower...

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
No way. Not a chance he'll get anything like that from the Yankees. Even if he stabilized where he is right now in terms of production, which is highly unlikely, he wouldn't get that for one year.
Few care at all about the home run record anymore. There is no way it's worth $17 million to the Yankees to have Arod, and all his baggage, do it in pinstripes.
Granted, we're talking about five years from now and the landscape on all sorts of things could be very different, but I don't see any possible way he's given that kind of money ever again, even if for one year.

Dear Alex, please follow.Accepting blame for his failure to produce at the plate or play capable defense at shortstop and second base, the Twins said Nishioka waived his right to his $3 million salary for the 2013 season and a $250,000 buyout.

Re: 2012 Alex Rodriguez Performance Thread
It's weird how good he looked after the injury and how bad he looks now. I just hope he gets hot again for the playoffs.
