Joba won't be ready until June.

Hughes will be the 5th SP with Garcia as the long man in the BP.

Agree, I also think that Ibanez is far from a lock. It will come down to a battle between him and Russell Branyan in ST.
Yogi - Its tough to make predictions, especially about the future.

Branyan will never make it out of SWB. If Ibanez can't cut it, and I think he will, the Yankees might give Jorge Vazquez (now with SWB) a shot. He has tremendous power numbers and had an awesome winter league season

If Joba won't be ready until midseason, that makes Corey Wade the sixth-inning guy. I sure hope he can handle the unique pressures of outs #16-18

The Yankees radio broadcast will no doubt find a sponsor for those outs.

The only spot that's open is Joba' temporary replacement (obviously, injuries aside). I'll go out on a limb and predict Cesar Cabral gets the spot.

I agree --- I think this is the oppportunity for Cabral (or Rapada) to show they can be effective LOOGY's -- unless they are awful in ST

Maybe, but I think they want a LHB

Well Cabral either makes the 25-man or he becomes a free agent, so they may, in fact, keep him and extend him a month or so into the season. I don't know if the Yankees have options left on Wade whereby he could start the season in SWB.

I hope Branyan is given a good long look; he can bring a lot of thunder to the Yankee line-up if you catch him a hot streak, like during a late season run. But if they want a 5th outfielder then Branyan has little chance of sticking.

After last year, I think we have to see how he is throwing before we make any proclamations.

kinda sucks cause I wanted Bill Hall and Russel Branyan to get real shots at making the team but with Ibanez and Chavez looks like the only way they make the team is via injury.

I think Kuroda is slotted #2 over Nova simply due to veteran status but I'd imagine he and Nova could flip slots mid season and the 5th spot is Hughes to lose, though I'd prefer Garcia in that 5th slot to be honest simply cause you know what you'll get and Hughes was lights out in the pen in 2009
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

OK. I think this is opening day: Both Joba and Aadsma will not be ready until mid season. I just don't like Delcarmen - Logan is one.

Vazquez wont make the team. he's got no purpose. He's a righty DH. The Yankees have a proven one of those who can also play good defense in the OF.

I was worried about this when Brian signed him!! He was our best weapon when he pitched for BoSox. I just don't think he has the composure for games on the line. And New York is more intense. If Joe goes to Decarmen we may see Joe sitting across from Terry on ESPN. Let put that kid we got from Pittsburg and see how he does.

This just doesn't feel like a Yankees team without Mitre and Burnett, I just can't get excited for this season anymore without those two .
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.

It wouldn't be a stretch for Chavez to not make it out of camp without getting hurt, in which case I think Hall has a shot.
