Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
I agree it's a great read (and how well I remember that 14-inning game). And it really makes you appreciate Martin as a defensive catcher.
But with his BA still well below the Mendoza line, now in almost August ... do the Yankees really give him that extension?

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
A very good job by Russell tonight. Hopefully this is a start to Martin being a threat again with the bat.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Credit whe credit is due. He continues to hit against lefties and over the last seven days has a BA of .313 to his name. Let's hope it continues down the stretch.

number 9 hitter in the lineup, great catcher, our lineup can absorb that when you get good defense behind homeplate
Congratulations and thank you for number 27, Yankees !!!!!!!!!!!!!. 1 game at a time to 28. C'mon, Yankees.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
He's still getting on base at an insane amount given his BA is so low.

He's not hitting but he does have that stellar defense.

Sick of having a walking corpse as a catcher. Doesn't do anything. Can't throw out runners. Every now and then he runs into a short porch yankee stadium homer to raise his OPS a smidge.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Could Joe at least move Russell down in the order. He has been a constant .190 hitter all season but Joe still bats him 6th or 7th. He should be hitting ninth.

His OBP is what we should looking at, not his BA.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Martin was doing a lot better after the all star break.
I don't think it's a coincidence his performance is suffering with him playing C 14 out of 18 days this month.
I've been saying for a while Martin needs rest to keep his legs under him. Girardi and Long must know this so Martin's struggles can be traced back to lack of depth at backup C.
.308 OBP is still higher than Chris Stewart's .289.
