Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
It's time to stick anyone behind the plate not named Martin or Stewart.
Holy is Martin bad. I liked the signing originally buy good lord is he useless. Hitless in his last 30 ABs

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2012/07/0...elt-real-good/• Russell Martin is now hitless in his past 30 at-bats. It’s the most consecutive at-bats without a hit by a Yankee since 2004 when both Jeter and Jason Giambi went hitless in 32 straight.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
he looks awful at the plate. his isolated OB numbers remain kinda impressive given that he couldn't hit a barn with a banjo. he looks so desperate for a hit right now. still don't understand the stewart acquisition.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Maybe if Romine comes back and does well in AAA he could take some starts away from Martin at the end of the year. But I think a 1-yr deal for Martin is all they should offer him in the offseason. Would work for both sides - Martin can showcase a 2nd time for a long-term contract with a team while the Yanks don't create another obligation for 2014.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
IMO, Martin will turn it around after the All Star break and Stewart hasn't done a bad job.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
He's on his way to being one of the worst single season Yanks players ever. Not good when you join a club with the likes of Bobby Meachem, Alvaro Espinoza, Spike Owen etc.

How's about Andy Pettitte gets off his ass and earns some of that money the Yankees are paying him and drive down to Puerto Rico to talk Jorge Posada into coming back to the team?

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Very disappointing... I think he calls a very good game, but he is clearly not 100% healthy. Like most of you, I don't think the Yankees can keep him in the lineup any longer and I hope we get some relief. Also, what about Cervelli? He's so much better hitting wise... Bring him on up!

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
I think Martin will do much better after the break...maybe it's wishful thinking but he was starting to hit a bit before he hurt his back.
Speaking of hurting backs, not sure where to put this but an article on Romine. I didn't realize he had several bulging discs. He says he does a lot of back strengthening now and is healthy but do bulging discs ever heal fully, especially for a catcher?

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
I thought we were loaded with catching prospects, what happened and where did they all go? This thing with Martin is starting to look serious, his whole demeanor appears different. He doesn't seem happy, maybe he is hurt, I only know that he's been a wall behind the plate, which makes me wonder and feel for him!

Montero-traded
Romine-Injured, and really was never a great-hitting prospect.
Sanchez-Hit well at low-A Charleston, starting off hot in high-A Tampa, but is still 19.
Those are our big 3. Other catchers in our system:
J.R. Murphy-Never a great hitter, just got moved to Trenton.
Kyle Higashioka-Just not that good.
Peter O'Brien-Just drafted out of college. Playing at ss-A Staten Island."Never, never, never quit."-Winston Churchill.

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Here's to a healthier / better second half for Mr. Martin. When healthy, he can be one of the best in the game.
You know they are not real pies, right?

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
hoping the break does Martin some good. I think he'll turn a corner if he's back is healthy.Short term, the Yankees have an everyday catcher who isn’t hitting. He’s hit eight home runs, and early in the year he was still getting on base at a good rate, but Martin’s hitting .179 through 207 at-bats. That’s a large enough sample size to mean something. He finally snapped an 0-for-30 slide right before the all-star break, then Joe Girardi benched him on Sunday so that Martin could have an extra day to clear his head.
“I told him, ‘Come back after the break and be the player you’re capable of being,’” Girardi said. “‘Put the first half behind you.’”

Re: 2012 Russell Martin Performance Thread
Everyday catchers tend not to get healthier as the season goes on. The break might help, but a week of crouching and he'll be hurting again.
