This guy is a joke. lol

It will be an even bigger joke if they sign him to a contract.

    He's basically a BUC.

I'm sure Martin is thrilled he didn't sign a long-term extension.

That's about what he's hit since May, 2011.

He looks totally lost, yanks should low ball him with an extension.

Should they offer him an extension? 3 out of his last 4 seasons have been awful.

Amazing how Martin hit .293 just five seasons ago playing 151 games as a catcher. Of course every season since then his average has gone down and last season he hit under .240. I hope Romine is the real deal for the Yankees going into next year.

Another helpless AB with the bases juiced. Is Austin Romine still hurt?

They're saying he's out till July. I don't think he's going to be of any help this year.

If Romine is THAT hurt this year, I wonder if he is EVER going to be any help to the team as a catcher!

Amazing, he is useless to the MLB club then for 2012.

The Dodgers' decision to non-tender him has proved fortuitous considering they have AJ Ellis hitting almost .330 now.

His gradual decline as a hitter is curious. I wonder if he has hurt himself with his weight lifting. Some baseball people believe flexibility can be impaired by excessive lifting. Just a thought; I have no idea really.

He hasn't been over 100 OPS+ for 4 years now. Last year his 18 HRs and quick start disguised some of it but the decline hasn't been all that gradual.

I was hoping we got the 105 - 120 OPS catcher with good defense he looked like he was when he came up with LAD and for a few weeks last year it looked like we did, but he just doesn't seem to be that player anymore.

Don't know what happened to him or if he can ever be that player again but I wouldn't gamble on a long term extension trying to find out.

I would not gamble either, and I doubt other teams will. He is losing a lot of money.

He swings really, really hard most of the time. His hips and head are so far in the seats behind 3B when he swings that it's a wonder he can ever make contact.

I'm wondering if the contract year has anything to do with his struggles. Trying too hard (and) (or) trying too hard to put up power numbers.

    .307/86, .306/89, .325/100, .299/84.

his wOBA/wRC+ the last four years.

he's not "trying too hard." he's just not very good with the bat and, outside of a brief stretch last year, hasn't been for years now.

Martin's lack of hitting is probably going to force the Yanks to go after the other Montero as a FA next year.

I don't know if Austin Romine is ever going to be a starting ML catcher, but his injury cost him a golden opportunity make a case for himself

Martin cost himself a lot of money by not signing an extension this past offseason.
