Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
The Giambi Thong ones were funny too

Few years back, someone had a thread featuring infamous but hilarious Post covers, perhaps it could be bumped? IMO, that paper = the best "entertainment" since having to buy MAD Magazines back in the day.
It seems they've hired all the former MAD & Weekly World News geniuses.
He'll never get another milestone like that one. So what? His whole career is a milestone.

This should help his range.

There is not a person alive who doesn't look fat from some angle at some point.

Jeez, we're not allowed to laugh at the Captain anymore.
Derek Eater - I thought that one's hilarious.
The look on Jeter's face staring at the camera is funny as well.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
What was photo shopped? The original picture doesn't show fat it shows someone slouching in baggy clothes. This is a tabloid trick that predates photo-shop. I would think in this age of everyone having a camera in their phone we would all be familiar with how bad you can look in an unflattering photo.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
The Captain had some comments of his own today on the Michael Kay Show.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...y-start-season
"I'll be in the walking boot for another few weeks, and then I'll be good to go," he said. "It's been a long process. What's it been, six or seven weeks, where I haven't been able to move too much? But it's healing probably just as expected. We still got a long way to go before the season starts, but I'll be ready."
Jeter, who will turn 39 in June, fractured the ankle, which had been troubling him because the bone was bruised, after stumbling while trying to turn a double play. He said at no point did he consider it a career-threatening injury.
"I felt it pop, so I figured it was broken somewhere," he said. "But no, I didn't think about that. I was thinking about how I'd get ready for the next season."
Jeter also took some jabs at a New York tabloid, which last week published a front-page photo of him in which it looked as though the normally lean captain had added a few pounds to his midsection during his recovery.
"I thought it was pretty funny," he said. "I guess there's a lot of things you can do with a picture. The funny thing is, a day or two before before that people were telling me I looked like a lost a lot of weight. And two days later I'm on the front page of the New York Post. So they had a little fun with it, but it's over and done with. I guess they do what they do."

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
on the scale of wrongness done by the Post over the years, manipulating a picture to make someone look chubby doesn't even register.
it's not right, but it's hardly something sub-tabloid level or worth caring too much about either.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
His shirt is clinging to his body and he is slouching so his stomach is rounded. You are so used to seeing him dressed and posed (he is posing in the other picture) you aren't prepared to see him looking like a normal person.
I guess it could have been Photoshopped but there is no reason it needs to be. I cannot believe that you have never before encountered a picture that made someone look fatter than they actually are. Follow any person around and take pictures of them without them knowing. You will get some shots that make them look awful and it only takes one bad shot to make a tabloid cover.
