Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
I just read that article a minute ago...I didn't see anything really new in it ..well besides the 'source'.. (correct me if wrong)..seems like more speculation just cause he is going to see more doctors to be sure.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Gotta be honest and say what I don't really want to say... I was a tad surprised that Jeter was not at the park yesterday, or that he won't be in Detroit at all. I understand how devastated he must me, but I'm certain he's not sitting in waiting rooms all day for a doc to see him. As captain, I'd have liked him to make an appearance pre-game or at least show up in Detroit and sit in the dugout for a bit.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
With all the negative stuff going around with A-Rod choking, nobody hitting, the buzz at the Stadium being totally killed by the steinbrenners, it makes you really appreciate that Jeter is still around because he gives you something to genuinely root for. The guy is the real deal, a true class act and always empties the tank for you. If only the other 8 guys could be like him. What a shame that he's out but he'll be back next year and I'll see him on opening day

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
The repot was that he was at the hospital most of the day for tests and then headed to charlotte to see a specialist. What is the point of going to the stadium and creating another distraction and hobbling around when they want to address the injury as soon as possible?
these guys are professonals and there's a lot at stake. I don't know if 'time is of the essence' is quite the right way to describe it, but if there' sany chance that more immediate attention and less traveling can help his recovery in any way for next year, then I'd err on the side of that.
Jeter practically starts spring training in about 3 months typically. the longer he's laid up and the more he's out of his offeseason routine...I don't see how that's worth it so that he can make an appearance in the dugout yesterday.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
i dont' know if you've ever fractured an ankle before, but that sht hurts like a muther for a number of weeks after, obviously... there's significant swelling and mobility is extremely limited (also, if the story about him tearing a few ligaments is true, then he's that much worse off)
i'm sure jeter has the heart to be with his teammates, but physically speaking, i'm not so sure it's either wise or possible

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
only for people looking for there to be one and those people would be roundly side-eyed.
there have been plenty of legit criticisms to make about Jeter in his career, at various times, but even trying to get on him for not traveling with the team after fracturing his ankle and/or not delaying seeing specialists/getting whatever treatment he has to have to follow them around is comically ridiculous.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
You know Jeter should join the team and also be in the game, Because him on crutches will hit better than most of this line-up.
It killed me that they looked worse yesterday, and against a medicore pitcher. Yeah the umps blew that call, but they still did not score any runs.

he'd probably still beat Cano to first base on crutches, if nothing else.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
A foot, a nose, some ribs. Never an ankle. I need to COMPLETELY re-state my post, because it's being read as not what I meant. I was making two points- one, I was a bit surprised (and I think others were, but don't admit it) that he wasn't planning on being around the team at all here. I'm not questioning his pain, I'm certainly not questioning his commitment or his undeniable passion for the game and everything Yankee. Two, I really do believe if it was a player that was in the cross hairs of this fanbase they'd spin it as "abandoning" the team in some way. He's absolutely not doing that, but I do think you'd hear a vocal minority shouting it if it were someone else. Heck, you had dozens in the crowd blaming Swisher for Jeter's injury yesterday!
I merely stated that I was a bit surprised that he wasn't going to show up in Detroit after the tests were run. I'm not the only one, and this is not me ripping him. I have nothing negative to say about the man or the player.

Of all the things to be concerned about the whereabouts of an injured Derek Jeter is just about last on my list.

I'm kind of glad he's getting surgery. I know all situations are not the same, but when I broke my ankle I wore a cast for a month before they decided I needed surgery.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Agreed. Completely, absolutely, got blown out of proportion to what I meant. Merely meant it as an observation as a "hmm....thought he'd be there" type of thing. As did every reporter the night he got hurt. Never said he didn't have better things to do, like take immediate care of his ankle. Just that I was surprised he didn't go "above and beyond" to make sure he got to the park.
I absolutely created a hijack of a thread for no good apparent reason. Carry on

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
I'd love to see him, but I understand. Being there will do nothing if the players are not going to hit with RISP. In fact, i could see him get angry and stomp his left foot in frustration... No need for any of that... LOL. Let him get checked out and see the specialist. We need him ready and rearing to go in 2013, when he, Mo and if Andy comes back, will make a run for a WS championship.

What an awful end to a tremendous season by Derek Jeter. I hope his recovery is speedy and completely full.
