Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Which is when all those creative perks on his contract would kick in:
Derek Jeter ss
3 years/$51M (2011-13), plus 2014 player option
3 years/$51M (2011-13), plus 2014 player option
re-signed by NY Yankees as a free agent 12/6/10
11:$15M, 12:$16M, 13:$17M, 14:$8M player option ($3M buyout)
$2M annually deferred without interest, payable each 3/15, 2015-17 (present-day AAV about $16M)
2014 option may increase to $17M based on awards earned in 2011-13: $4M for AL MVP; $2M for 2nd-6th in MVP vote; $1.5M for Silver Slugger; $0.5M each for Gold Glove, ALCS MVP, WS MVP
if 2014 option is exercised at less than $17M, Jeter may earn same bonuses in 2014, up to $17M

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
At this point the old man is just making everyone else look bad as he leads the team in basically everything including power numbers across the board. Time to get with the program, boys.

At this point, the only guys in the league with more home runs than Jeter are the Joshes ... Hamilton and Willingham. They have five to his four.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
I wonder if something was more wrong with him than he let on to anyone else in 2010, health/injury-wise. looking back, over the first 100 PAs that season he did post about a .380 wOBA (slugging well over .500)... and then the bottom fell out.
further given how things quickly turned around last year when he was able to use his DL trip work to get fully back to his "old swing" and how he's looked this season, perhaps there was little to actually fix, no majorly substantive decline to reverse, in the first place and it was just mostly about being in better health.

Did Jeter sell his soul for 10 years younger?

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Just want to tip my hat to Jeter. I've been critical at times the last 2 seasons, but he seems to have found the fountain of youth. The fact that he has rebounded some isn't shocking. It's the degree to which he has, the immediacy of it after coming off the DL last season and that he has sustained it beyond the offseason and his swing looks as sweet as it ever has.

I never thought Jeter was done, but he looks much better than I ever expected.
He looks stronger.
And I have to say - I'm way happy about it.Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Even though I was the poster who brought up the contract perks, I would love to see him win AL MVP. He absolutely should have had it in '06 and it's the only thing his resume lacks.
WS MVP, sure I'd love to see him win another of those because it would mean #28 for the Yankees!

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Even though he's off to such a hot streak, I still think he needs to be rested from time to time. That seemed to help him, wish I had the stats to see how he did after he had rest.
