Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
adjusting for position, even accounting for defense, Jeter was solidly better than Bernie in 1998 and 1999.
he was the most valuable player (regular season) on the 2009 team as well, as he was fantastic that season -- the bottom just fell out so painfully and quickly the next year that it's perhaps a bit hazy now.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Noting that we've faced two lefty starters in four games which might explain the good hitting, he is looking good. This is the sort of start he really needed. Hopefully he keeps this going.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
I know it's early, but Jeter looks like can hit well over .300 this season, which would be fantastic for the Yankees. I guess Long really did mess with his swing last year, that's why he got off to such a poor start.

Yesterday's lead off HR was the 25th of his career, breaking the Yankees record of 24 held by Rickey Henderson.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
I'm sure that some of you have noticed that I've been pretty hard on Jeter in the past, maybe some of it could be that so many fans just absolutely love him and I'm not big on following the crowd.
I've always felt that there are times that no matter how good a player is they still make mistakes or screw up, in his case when fielding I've seen errors turn to hits, and when he's hitting I've seen again errors turn to hits. I guess that shows us just how loved Derek Jeter is.
Anyway I do like Derek and he is an always has been a tremendous talent, and the truth is that those few hits an errors that are turned around should show us that even scorers can't help them selves from liking Derek and what he brings to the game. Also there's always been this kind of silent competition between Derek an A-rod, and I think it's pretty fair to say that Derek is just flat out more liked then Alex and usually comes up just as big if not bigger in games that we need someone to step up.
So to end this thing let me say that so far in this season , Derek looks to me to be bigger an in better shape, looking fit and ready to go and maybe he'll even have a huge season. Also his play so far has been nothing short of great.

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
*facepalm*
In five games, we've faced three lefty starters. While I'm impressed and please with Jeter's start, I would like to see him face a bunch of righty starter in a row that doesn't allow him to get a a groove. Until that happens, I'm not sold that he's gonna keep this up. Nevertheless, he's hitting well and I'm rooting for him.
Oh, poor throw home yesterday. Should've made it easier for Martin.Bring tea for the Tillerman; Steak for the son; Wine for the woman

Re: 2012 Derek Jeter Performance Thread
Your always honest, so keep in mind that Jeters throw home hit Martin right in the glove, an I really like Martin and his ability. Martin looked a little spent to me yesterday, an I'm sure that you'll agree that Martin would catch that same throw 95% of the time. Also that you clearly made a very good point about Derek, and what might happen when he has to face tough right handed pitching for several games in a row.
That is yet to see, but yes it's fine to speculate and see just how right we are!Last edited by NoodleRay; 04-15-12 at 01:58 PM.

I may be the biggest DJ fan and supporter there is, but I don't like what I see when he's hitting against RHP right now.
