Re: 2012 NFL General Discussion Thread
The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Louisiana was told Friday that New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis had an electronic device in his Superdome suite that had been secretly re-wired to enable him to eavesdrop on visiting coaching staffs for nearly three NFL seasons, "Outside the Lines" has learned.
Sources familiar with Saints game-day operations told "Outside the Lines" that Loomis, who faces an eight-game suspension from the NFL for his role in the recent bounty scandal, had the ability to secretly listen for most of the 2002 season, his first as general manager of the Saints, and all of the 2003 and 2004 seasons. The sources spoke with "Outside the Lines" under the condition of anonymity because of fear of reprisals from members of the Saints organization.

Re: 2012 NFL General Discussion Thread
You can apparently bet on every game of the upcoming season already. You know it's a crapshoot, but there's potential there. This article outlines some of the most intriguing lines.
Week 1: Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos
Line: Broncos -2
Might as well start with the biggest question mark of the year: How will Peyton Manning affect the Denver Broncos? If you believe that he's going to be the old Peyton you'll basically be betting every Broncos line now and hoping that they end up three or four points better by the time the games actually get played. This one's really interesting, though, because it's really easy to see the angles on both sides. The Broncos beat the Steelers last year in the playoffs, and that was with Tim Tebow at quarterback. Take out Tebow, put in Manning in his coronation game, and count the money, right? On the other hand, those Broncos beat a horrifically banged-up Steelers team, and while Pittsburgh never seems to get totally healthy, they have their best shot at being something resembling 100 percent in Week 1. Which side is right? No idea.http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-tr...ambling-seasonWeek 10: New York Giants at Cincinnati Bengals
Line: Pick 'em
OK. We pick the Giants.

The Dolphins will be the focus of this year's Hard Knocks. Blah. They're a boring team with no real stars and no real prospects for this season. I'll still watch though.
CBSports lists 10 reasons it may be a good show even with the Dolphins.

Re: 2012 NFL General Discussion Thread
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/79...sco-49ers-planSANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh insists the 49ers planned to have Alex Smith as their quarterback even while they examined the possibility of signing then-free agent Peyton Manning.
Harbaugh ended his weekly meeting with reporters on Wednesday by addressing what he says is the "erroneous perception that we were flirting with Peyton Manning."
Harbaugh called the reports silly and phony, then spoke at length about his and the team's ongoing support for Smith, who last season helped the 49ers reach the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
"I've said it all along, Alex Smith has been our quarterback," Harbaugh said. "There's no scenario other than Alex choosing to sign with another team that we would have considered him not as our quarterback. It's time to set the record straight.
I hope Smith believes that.

interesting...
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2012/6/1...ilable-to-fansDiehard football fans, the kind of fans that like to dig into the details of the game's Xs and Os, may have experienced heart palpitations on Friday morning. The NFL announced, after years of begging and cajoling from fans, that it will make "Coaches Film" available through its Game Rewind feature, which allows fans to watch archived broadcasts of each and every NFL game.

Re: 2012 NFL General Discussion Thread
What a terrific player he was. It really reminds you, though, how short careers are in the NFL compared to other sports, especially for RBs. It feels like he was around forever, but he's only 32. He was so much fun to watch, especially when he went to the air to try to score in goal line situations.
