In principle, I agree with you. OTOH, if Ibanez is able to produce as well as Mondesi did as a Yankee - .250/.323/.453 - that won't be so bad.

Apparently he hung out with Rudy Jaramillo this offseason to adjust his swing, so let's see where that gets him.

I usually trust Kevin Long, I think he can fix some problems that Ibanez had last year.

I just got back from GMS. I got there after most of the players were finished but, Swish and Ibanez were on an outer field taking extra BP with K Long pitching. After Ibanez took about 10-12 swings, Long and he had a short conversation. Ibanez stepped back in the box and proceeded to hit the next 4 or 5 pitches about 420' to right center and K Long yelled in to Ibanez and said "OK, what do we do for the rest of the spring??"

Well, you can't be unhappy with this guy so far. He looks like he wants to win and worked hard for that chance this offseason.

I'm hoping for a productive season for the guy.

At least he looks pretty good in the pinstripes.

I went through that phase already and have accepted that we most likely will not see Branyan for the Yanks.

I've decided to man-crush on Ibanez instead. I hope he dosen't dissapoint me.

Hopefully Branyan looks competent, but not too good, in ST. Good enough that he'd accept a mL assignment at SWB, not so good that he'd ask for his release and seek a ML deal elsewhere. He'd be a good option to have at AAA in the event of injury or underpeformance by Ibanez.

I'd love to have him as insurance but I'm not sure if the Yankees will want to pay him the extra $100,000 and not have control over him potentially.
