The Injury Update Thread 2012
Might as well get it started.
LoHud has some updates on Joba (rehab from TJ surgery going well, not expected back before June), Andruw Jones (rehab from offseason minor knee surgery going well, reporting early), A-Rod ("'good to go' after his winter surgery"), Cervelli ("100%" recovered from concussions), Brad Meyers, and Pedro Feliciano. Could Feliciano actually throw a pitch or two for the Yankees this year?

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
I'll quote what I put in the first of these threads, in 2009:
Please note that this is not an Official Injury Update Thread. Feel free to post news about injuries to a particular player in that player's megathread. I just thought that it would be nice to have a single thread that would be mainly for news about various injuries to anyone on the team, so those who are bothered by the megathreads could come here for the latest on who's hurt and who's coming back.

Andruw Jones is feeling much better after that off-season surgery:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2012/02/2...repaired-knee/Andruw Jones could not have played the outfield regularly last season. His left knee was sore enough that he required regular treatments, drainings and cortisone shots to keep him in a platoon role. An offseason surgery, he believes, cleaned up the problem and he reported to camp this morning to do some early work on the field.
“It was bad,” Jones said. “I’m not going to lie to you. It didn’t affect me whatsoever (in terms of performance). It affected me that I couldn’t stay on the field the whole game or play a little more if they needed me, but it’s one of those things that I just had to deal with and try to grind it all the way through the season, and when the season was over, try and address it.”
Jones said he focused on conditioning this season. He was able to do more running after the knee was repaired, so he ran and did agility drills, focusing on those areas more than lifting. He seems roughly the same size as last season, but Jones said he’s been moving much better.
“I feel great,” he said. “I’ve been running a lot. My goal was to get back in great playing shape and be a little lighter on my legs so I can go out there and play any time they call my name.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
I think we all just assumed this was the case but it's good to hear.

TAMPA -- Ivan Nova’s arm feels fine, and he says there are no aftereffects of the injury that cut short his start in Game 5 of the AL division series as the New York Yankees were eliminated.
After leading major league rookies in wins last season, Nova got the win in the rain-interrupted opener against Detroit. But he lost the series final, leaving after just two inning because of a strained flexor in his right forearm.
Nova healed without complications, and the right-hander began throwing off a mound well before spring training.
“It’s perfect,” he said Wednesday. “100 percent. I was worried a little bit, but they said you’re going to be fine.”

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
Probably just minor but worth a report:
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/...k_nyy&c_id=nyy
TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees catcher Austin Romine experienced back soreness after going through workouts on Thursday and may miss a day, manager Joe Girardi said.
Romine, 23, is one of eight catchers the Yankees have in camp and just one of three on the club's 40-man roster.

Joba threw 16 pitches off a full-size mound this morning (per WINS radio, so no link). He said it felt fine.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
I don't know what to make about all the smoke and mirrors with regard to Gardy. They know TJ surgery isn't needed and they think the injury doesn't involve ligaments. I thought James Andrews was the gold standard for treating sports injuries, so it seems a little odd that he's now going to see another physician. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion, however. At least he's not feeling as much pain now as he did previously.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
Sounds good:
He believes he is 2-3 weeks away from going on a minor league rehab assignment and envisions himself becoming a valued reliever for the Yankees in the second half of the season.Chamberlain says his arm feels better than it has in a long time — “I essentially got a new arm,” he said. He wears no brace on the ankle when he throws, taping it heavily only as a precaution, even when he is running sprints. There has been none of the expected swelling or soreness. His regimen of 30-pitch bullpen sessions will be modified this week to 40 pitches with a break in the middle to simulate a multi-inning outing. The last hurdles will be moving from fitness to baseball shape and agility in fielding the position: side-to-side agility drills will become full-on fielding practice over the next two weeks.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
Uh-oh. Setback for Aardsma:
http://m.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees...ontent=Yankees
The injury news was not as good for right handed reliever David Aardsma, whose comeback from Tommy John surgery was put on hold yesterday, General Manager Brian Cashman confirmed.
The 30 year old, who was on pace to join the Yankees as soon as next month, felt some discomfort in his elbow.
"You never want to get shut down", Aardsma said on Twitter, "But sometimes you need to be smart and listen to your body."
He had been pitching rehab games.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2012
I was looking forward to Aardsma coming on board in the second half, now I'll be shocked if we see him at all this year. In my mind he's done for the year. If I'm wrong it will be a surprise, but I'm not even thinking about him anymore.

From the same source:• Yankees left fielder Raul Ibanez suffered a lacerated lip and a broken tooth after he was struck by a foul ball off the bat of A.J. Pierzynski in the dugout during the ninth inning.
Ibanez tried to duck out of the way, but the ball ricocheted and hit him. He was immediately tended to by trainer Steve Donahue and escorted into the clubhouse.
A Yankees spokesman said Ibanez was getting checked out at New York Presbyterian Hospital and is expected to join the team in Tampa in time for Monday night’s game against the Rays.
Edited to add one small item about Mo:CC Sabathia, who says he hasn’t been feeling any pain in his leg, plans on playing catch Monday.
The Yankees are hoping he misses just two starts and returns after the All-Star break.

Rivera refused to get into specific details of his rehabilitation from June 12 surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but he maintained that he'll return to the Yankees' bullpen next season, adding that he feels good.
The 42-year-old right-hander wore a soft brace on his knee and walked without any obvious limp.

In his post-game presser, Girardi was asked for info/results on Alex's x-ray and said that it would be done tomorrow (Tuesday).
