    2012 Mariano Rivera Performance Thread

Announcing plans after the season. Ugh.

Mo, you're already off to a great start.

No surprise: Mariano Rivera will be late getting to camp. "What am I going to do? He's Mariano Rivera," Cashman said.

Erik Boland @eboland11 Reply Retweet Favorite Open
Cashman said Rivera will get to Tampa "whenever" he wants to. Said, "He knows what he needs to do" to get ready for the season.

Hopefully he doesn't announce that he's going to retire after the season.

Hush! Blasphemes aren't allowed on here

I think they're going to let Mo be Mo this season. I bet they think by being nice, he'll sign for an extension.

When he does get there, I bet there won't be any gray uniforms in his locker.

I'm sick of this guy coming late to Spring Training every year. I say, if he does arrive late he gets fined. This is bull crap.

Of course it's serious. The guy is a legend and he sets a bad example to the other players when he arrives late. Especially the younger players.

...Then he'll get off to his normal slow start and everyone will wonder why.

I think it's because of his family. And, if you want Mo to keep pitching for the Yankees, you gotta let him have this. You can tell that, other than his faith, his family is the most important thing in his life. And, I respect the Yankees FO for respecting that. Mo shows up and does his job. If he wasn't doing his job, he wouldn't be coming late.

Every year it's some excuse. I'm sick of it. Get to work on time. I get paid less than a quarter of what this guy makes and I'm on time every day. And I have a 90 minute commute each way.

I guess I understand, but he shows up and does his job. In regards to how this all works, I think its something that the Yankees say Mo has earned. During the season, he watches every play of every game. He helps other pitchers out. He doesn't slack off. Let him have another week or two with his family. The SECOND that it backfires on the Yankees they will/would address it.

He just had 4 months off with his family. I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. In life, people are expected to show up for work on time. When they don't it's a problem. Others wonder why they have to be on time and Mariano Rivera's can waltz into work at their own leisure. It creates problems. The Yankees have failed to win a World Championship two years in a row now. This is not the time to be slack on rules.

I think we can agree to disagree at this point. I just don't have an issue with it. I expect him to be there when the season starts, that's all that matters to me.

Edit: apparently he cleared it with Cash before hand.

Then when ARod is late and Cano is off smiling somewhere and he's late, and Teix decides to skip Spring Training and Granderson takes March off and CC skips a few Spring Training starts..

These are all ok as long as they show up for the first real game?

OK. I'd happily agree to disagree at this point if I had the foggiest idea what you were talking about.

Tex is notorious for having slow starts. He'd better be to camp on time. A-Rod was injured, Cano had a slow(er) start and Granderson kind of fell apart last season (I can't remember if it was August or September). They ought to be back. Mo was fine. Come late, bro.

It's all about example setting. Letting people stroll in whenever they want is Red Sox baseball. not Yankee baseball.

Be on time. Sheesh. He's coming off a 4 month vacation.

I honestly can't tell if he just doesn't know or if it's just a stunt to fool "newer" members.

As long as it's close to a quarter, that's still pretty good. I could live off that.

He's strongly hinting that this is his last season.
