2012 Mariano Rivera Performance Thread
Announcing plans after the season. Ugh.
Mo, you're already off to a great start.

No surprise: Mariano Rivera will be late getting to camp. "What am I going to do? He's Mariano Rivera," Cashman said.

Cashman said Rivera will get to Tampa "whenever" he wants to. Said, "He knows what he needs to do" to get ready for the season.Last edited by snapple; 02-20-12 at 01:08 PM.

Re: 2012 Mariano Rivera Performance Thread
Hopefully he doesn't announce that he's going to retire after the season.

When he does get there, I bet there won't be any gray uniforms in his locker.

I'm sick of this guy coming late to Spring Training every year. I say, if he does arrive late he gets fined. This is bull crap.

Re: 2012 Mariano Rivera Performance Thread
I think it's because of his family. And, if you want Mo to keep pitching for the Yankees, you gotta let him have this. You can tell that, other than his faith, his family is the most important thing in his life. And, I respect the Yankees FO for respecting that. Mo shows up and does his job. If he wasn't doing his job, he wouldn't be coming late.

Re: 2012 Mariano Rivera Performance Thread
I guess I understand, but he shows up and does his job. In regards to how this all works, I think its something that the Yankees say Mo has earned. During the season, he watches every play of every game. He helps other pitchers out. He doesn't slack off. Let him have another week or two with his family. The SECOND that it backfires on the Yankees they will/would address it.

Re: 2012 Mariano Rivera Performance Thread
He just had 4 months off with his family. I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. In life, people are expected to show up for work on time. When they don't it's a problem. Others wonder why they have to be on time and Mariano Rivera's can waltz into work at their own leisure. It creates problems. The Yankees have failed to win a World Championship two years in a row now. This is not the time to be slack on rules.

I think we can agree to disagree at this point.
I just don't have an issue with it. I expect him to be there when the season starts, that's all that matters to me.
Edit: apparently he cleared it with Cash before hand.

I honestly can't tell if he just doesn't know or if it's just a stunt to fool "newer" members.

Always makes me pumped to watch the GOAT."We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."

He's strongly hinting that this is his last season.
