Countdown to Opening Day - A Jorge Posada Tribute

Getting the idea from Soup's Nick Swisher ST Countdown, I'd like to start a Jorge Posada "Tribute" Opening Day Countdown in honor and remembrance of the many splendid seasons of great baseball he gave us. Starting this Monday (2/20) it will be 46 days to opening day. As a tribute to his longtime battery mate #46, I thought it would be an appropriate date to start the countdown and get the pictures flowing.

I've been working on this for a bit and have all the days covered with at least one picture of Jorge and the # of days 'till opening day, and would ask all others to join in with posting additional pics of Jorge with players sporting the uni # of the remaing days until opening day. All my pics are original but photoshop pics (with retired Yankees #'s) would be welcomed as well. The more pics the greater the tribute, so please add as many as possible.

And thank you Jorge, for the years of dedicated service and leadership you have given to the Yankees! You will be missed.

Your final picture in this tribute thread should be from September 10, 2011.

Thanks for the comments guys, it should be a lot of fun. One of the things that really hit me as I was compiling the pics was just how many iconic Yankees moments Jorge was in the middle of.

So starting after midnight tonight it will be 46 days to OD and I'll start with -- the pitcher who was given the starting nod in more games than any other with Jorge -- #46 Andy Pettitte. Can't wait.

The Jorge idea is awesome, but the best thing about this thread is that you aren't using an incorrect date in the thread title.
    Pardon, for us.

In a contest to see who could do the most pushups, Jorge Posada and Jacoby Ellsbury look to the umpire to see if Jacoby's "ladies" style pushup counted. The ump signaled to deduct one pushup and advised Jacoby that if he cheated again he'd have to do 100 "big boy" pushups per day for the ...

Only 45 "Who's Your Daddy" days left to opening day.

Here's a close up of part of the composite pic from above that more clearly shows the emotion with which Jorge played.

Here's another "45 Days to Opening Day" sequence composite
that shows two of my favorite Jorge Posada moments.

I never knew that someone as fleet-footed as Jorge could possibly jump that high.

Well, it's undercut by the fact that Posada was in the dugout, not in his catcher's gear, when Pedro pointed at his head in Game 3 of the 2003 ALCS. That pic of Posada pointing does not go with the Pedro pic.

Sorry if it offended, but the composite with Pedro pointing to his head and the subsequent closeup was found in more than one place on the internet. I was just happy and relieved to have finally found a pic with #45 and Jorge for the countdown. I assumed it was correct and if not, I believe it captured the spirit of what happened that day and therefore nothing IMHO was undercut. Just looking at the background of the following closeup there appears to be fans with red jerseys and RS caps so I do believe it was in Boston. If not the game of the Zim throwdown when was it? Regardless, pictures are meant to tell a story and I do believe whoever put that composite together, even if they did take some artistic liberties captured very well the emotions of that day.

    Full Disclosure
The sequence composite of the 2003 ALCS game 7 was put together by me, and the second pic showed Pedro delivering a pitch after Grady made a visit to the mound and left him in. I thought it added to the drama of the sequence, and with Pedro's #45 clearly showing went nicely with the countdown. However, I cannot be absolutely certain that it was the actual delivery that resulted in Po's double.

In addition, pleased be advised that there may be photoshopped pics with Jorge and retired Yankee #'s. This is not meant to deceive or undercut but merely to have some fun with countdown numbers that were hard to find.

Reggie says there's only 44 days to opening day.

Taking a lead off of third base Jorge Posada starts to celebrate as Reggie hits a monster walk-off blast headed for the black. Posada later said he knew just from the sound coming off the bat that it was long gone.

Rasner : Jorge, the Yankees want to sell my rights to a team in the Japanese Pacific League for 1 Mil. I'll make a lot more there than I can here so I think I'm going to sign with them starting the 2009 season.

Posada : Darrell, when you're there you might run into that loudmouth egomaniac Bobby Valentine. He's obsessed with anything Yankees and because of that not even the dregs of MLB will hire him. I'm happy for you Darrell but sorry that you wont be here for the next ...
