Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
Not bad in the end. He took us deep and we won the game. Hoping the end of this start is the beginning of him turning it on. The slider looked good tonight. He was throwing it for strikes and rolling guys with it too.

Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
He's drifting. That's all.
Seems like he does this every year - struggles in April.
I'm pretty confident that he'll be dominating again this season.Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
According to Marc Carig, a simple adjustment by Rothschild between innings helped him regain his good stuff last night. Nice to know our pitching coach is more on top of things than his predecessor was.

Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
SIERA is pretty good. I'd expect CC to hit around a 3.00 ERA again, but I am hoping he can get a 2.5

Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
CC will have a great season as long as we don't go back to a 6-man rotation & he keeps the weight off.

Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
problem with fip for a pitcher experiencing some kind of change, such as decline in velo, is that the strikeout numbers may stay the same because the breaking stuff stays the same, but the fb, which lets the pitcher control the encounter more and is perhaps best thought of as a 'defense' against hard hit balls vs 'offense' of the breaking balls in striking people out, experiences real decline.
i know that sentence is rather long but the idea is that strikeout rate may stay the same but the pitcher's velo decline does really mean he becomes worse at run prevention, contrary to projected fip.
this is not to say cc won't be cc in the future, it is just that his velo needs to pick up a bit before he can dominate again.always reasonable

Re: 2012 CC Sabathia performance thread
He lowered his ERA to 4.58 and is now 3-0. He leads the AL in strikeouts per 9 innings.
