A highlight for Yankee fans:

It was a huge deal when the Mariners traded Michael Pineda and a guy for Jesus Montero and a guy. The Mariners were supposedly subtracting from a strength to add to a weakness, and Montero had been one of the more hyped position-player prospects in the world. Pineda subsequently got himself hurt and didn't pitch all year. The minor leaguer also got hurt. Meanwhile, Jesus Montero went on to post a negative WAR, and Hector Noesi went on to post a negative WAR. There's a statistical argument to be made that Pineda did more for the Yankees by not playing than Montero and Noesi did for the Mariners by playing quite a lot.

I agree (just because of Pineda's future health prospects, not because of anything performance related to this point), but I don't think its the same thing as it being a bad trade. The first team that can predict injuries will win the WS every year

Injuries to young pitchers are fairly easy to predict when compared to young position players.

they are more common, less random with more warning signs, and less avoidable since they are usually literally caused by pitching. So I have to disagree, they absolutely are easier to predict.

if a pitcher is a) under 25 b)hasn't had tommy John yet c) is coming off a large innings increase d)has a violent or "all arm delivery" e)is a converted position player or short inning reliever f) throws a slider or forkball/splitter..... They are more likely to get hurt and miss significant time. Pick a few guys with a few of these characteristics and one of them will get hurt.

Can you tell me anything that makes a position player likely to incur an injury? If you can't then I'm right.

If you seriously disagree with me then ill look at stats and pick a few names. Do I really have to predict the future to support common sense? If you had a gun to your head and were told you had to pick 5 healthy MLB players that would miss several months of 2012 you wouldn't pick 5 young pitchers?

There's an inherent risk in pitching which is magnified by young pitchers. I think of that as common knowledge.
