Re: 2012 Jesus Montero Performance Thread
Except he really was worse in MiLB than Posada in MiLB or MLB, by quite a bit.
Montero's on pace to become one of the worst catchers in terms of passed balls in a LONG time, worse than V-Mart and Posada by a lot.
It's possible he's really good at other aspects of catching to make up for it... but I really doubt it given how others, including his own teammates, are so reserved in their praises. "He's closer than some people think". Yankees sang that tune for years up till the day they traded Montero away.

Re: 2012 Jesus Montero Performance Thread
By what metric? Receiving which IMO was always one of the most important parts of being a catcher and Posada was one of the worst.

I was against this trade from the beginning. However, at this point Yankee fans should be legitimately sour. The main piece of this trade had potential career ending shoulder surgery and the other part is on the DL with an unknown elbow injury. Not to mention our offense is struggling mightily and Montero is heating up.

Re: 2012 Jesus Montero Performance Thread
We are:
4th in the AL in Runs
2nd in the AL in Hits
1st in the AL in HR
2nd in the AL in Total Bases
2nd in the AL in BA
2nd in the AL in OBP
2nd in the AL in SLG
2nd in the AL in OPS
Damn, I can't wait for our offense to get going, if it's currently "struggling mightily".

Re: 2012 Jesus Montero Performance Thread
For what it's worth, Jesus Montero does not lead the Seattle Mariners in passed balls this season.
The Seattle Mariners once traded away a young minor league catcher in part because of his propensity for passed balls.
Jason Varitek had 52 passed balls in 299 minor league games at catcher while Jesus Montero had 48 passed balls in 346 minor league games at catcher. Jorge Posada has 83 passed balls in 432 minor league games at catcher.Last edited by tranquility; 05-08-12 at 01:08 AM.

Re: 2012 Jesus Montero Performance Thread
Jesus Montero, who avoided the passed ball Monday night behind the plate, nearly had a walkoff homerun but settled for a game-tying RBI double off the wall in the deepest reaches of centerfield as the Seattle Mariners scored three in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The 14-17 Seattle Mariners are now 5-5 in Montero's 10 starts at catcher.Last edited by tranquility; 05-08-12 at 10:00 AM.

Re: 2012 Jesus Montero Performance Thread
Why do you have to make it sound like a game re-cap?
Just saying that he had a game tying RBI double would have been enough
