Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
He had absolutely nothing today...
I guess the one silver lining is that after the brutal first inning, he gutted out to pitch into the 6th inning.

Joe should have left him in to face Ortiz. He could have been in line for the win.

Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
NYY bullpen usage: Logan, Eppley, Robertson, Soriano.
BOS bullpen usage: Albers, Miller, Padilla, Atchinson, Melancon (basically the whole bullpen minus the long reliever whoever it is and "closer").
I guess assuming the Yankees go on and win this game, this game is a pretty good gutty win that didn't burn the bullpen that much.
Considering Kuroda was eventually bound to have a stinker (he was due for one, without taking anything away from his recent great streak), the positive is that it was on a game that the Yankees bats came alive in.
I still expect him to have a good second half from him though...granted the first game after the AS break against Weaver doesn't look like a great game for him to pick up his 50th MLB win.Last edited by H.Kokubo; 07-06-12 at 10:22 PM. Reason: Forgot Aceves warmed up but didn't pitch

Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
He was throwing pies in the first inning but in a normal ballpark he would have likely limited the damage. The defense didn't do him any favors either.
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

This is what a No. 2, or even an ace, looks like on a bad day.
Made adjustments to gut through 5.2 and kept us in the game.
AJ would have melted like ice cream in a sauna.

Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
What does this guy have to pitch like to even get a bump of his thread?
But man, 30 innings no runs on day games? Girardi should just pitch him in all day games from now on

Not counting our chickens before they're hatched, but if the Yankees do make it to the post
season and they happen to draw a day game in the ALDS, I want Kuroda on the mound for that game!

Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
Kuroda's career splits don't show much of a difference between day games and night games. Going into today, he had a career WHIP of 1.197 in both day games and night games.

Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
I really like Kuroda. He fits the Yankees' need for a pitcher who can throw quality starts. I am, however, a bit worried about him going up against a really good lineup in the playoffs, when we will probably have a need for our starters to be more dominant rather than just keep us in games.

Re: 2012 Hiroki Kuroda performance thread
I was following on Gameday in between working. Everytime I got a chance to check, the Yankees were at bat, so I knew he had to be dealin'. Did he work faster than usual yesterday or was it just a matter of being in control?

Job well done again. The Yankees needed this win.
It's all Cashman's fault!

Eight starts where he's allowed 1ER or less. His peripherals are in line with his Dodger days (apparently, guys who succeed in the NL are capable of doing it in the AL, who knew?). Should definitely be brought back next year.

Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.
