So the Yankees should force Papa Pineda and Mama Pineda to move back in with him is what you're saying. Roger that.

Maybe the Ninjas could check Pineda's homework each morning.
    Pardon, for us.

How do you know Michael didn't learn drinking from them? Clearly we have a family history of overeating and overdrinking.

Is alcohol tolerance a critical metric of player's perfomance these days? Maybe a separate thread is in order.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread

Just think how different this thread could have gone if, in post #2455, awy had pretended he knew about the Rays' meth problems and that post #2451 was sarcastic. I thought that was the whole point of vague one-line posts with no punctuation and very little context ... plausible deniability.

Really the only thing im looking forward to next season is watching this kid pitch.

Hopefully he comes back better than ever and really solidifies the top end of our rotation.
? Can switching to Geico really save you 15 % or more on car insurance ? ? Does the postman always ring twice ?

I'll take 'comes back at all' as a victory.

We'll see. He'll have something to prove because right now the book on him (among Yankee fans who got only a glimpse this year) is that he's a man-child with potential work ethic and maturity issues.

I'm always hopeful but I've set my expectations extremely low.

How long did Jake Peavy take to be effective again? Pineda won't do anything besides frustrate next year.

A torn labrum injury is something like 80+% unrecoverable for a pitcher. I'm not betting against him, just betting with the odds when I say I don't think he'll ever again be an effective pitcher.

    But see this article ...

    http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/2012/04/40745-40745

Among the pitchers mentioned who recovered quite well from labrum surgery: Chris Carpenter, Jon Rauch, Trevor Hoffman, Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, Al Leiter (mentioned in a comment).

    Oh, and Anibal Sanchez. Hmmm.

    CC
    Kuroda
    Pettitte
    Pineda
    Hughes

Can't expect Kuroda and Pettitte to be this good next year. Pineda is the key of making this rotation to be one of the very best in the league.

With this type of injury, the odds are stacked against Pineda being effective in 2013 and anywhere close to what he once was, let alone the rest of his career.

I am extremely worried that this trade will be worse -- when we look back 20 years from now -- than the Phelps-Buhner trade.

Just a reminder of what was acquired. Hopefully he comes back as close to the same guy.

He's done. Guarantee you he wont break 90 mph.

He's going to have to reinvent himself, as a crafty pitcher. I've never heard of a player regain velocity after shoulder surgery.
